Hi all
I am travelling to Denmark this summer and wondered whether anyone could give some recommendations for decent Danish cider (I will NOT be drinking Somersby!) and where I might be able to get it (I am going to Copenhagen and the northern part of Zealand).
Thanks
Miles

Hi Miles

Denmark is an emerging cider country with few established producers mainly in the countryside.

Cold Hand Winery (coldhandwinery.dk) is the flagship of danish cider and fruit wine.
I can highly recommend their products. They are situated in Jutland. Website in English and German also.

Aeblerov (apple scrumping) is a hipster cider start up in Copenhagen. They do different organic ciders with no additives what so ever.
Here is the website  http://www.aeblerov.com/ Run it through google translate maybe?

Kernegaarden (www.kernegaarden.dk). Situated on the island Fejø south of Zealand. They do organic keeved cider with french cider apples
(Kermerrien, Douce Couet, Ligné, Judeline, Douce Moen og Binet rouge.)

Fejø http://www.fejoecider.dk/ They also do organic french keeved style cider with french cider apples. On the island Fejø south of Zealand.

Horn Cider http://horncider.dk/. Uses Bramley and Belle De Boscoop.
My wifes comment:"WOW this is so much better that yours". It is sparkling champagne style.

Does beer and cider. Situated in the northern part of Zealand. You can buy the cider at the organic shop/farm at Kelleris.
Nice Place!
The cider is sparkling with residual sweetness. I think it is done by multiple racking or keeving.
It contains cider apples to some degree.

Feel free to contact me. The ciders will be hard to find in shops.
Cider is at the moment a niche product, but is catching the eye of the public.

Would be interesting if you could update this thread afterwards. Can our local stuff compare to English, French and US Ciders?

Enjoy your stay! The weather is unfortunately not the best this year.

Cider in Denmark, what a great topic!  My family will be visiting Denmark early September, and a few of these locations will surely be on our list to visit.  I will give some comparisons and feedback from a NW USA perspective.

Hi Anders

Many thanks for the list, it's just what I was looking for. I had tried googling Danish cider without much joy and didn't come across any of these producers.

I will attempt to try as many as possible if I can find them and let you know how I think they compare with UK ciders (I have less experience of French and almost no experience of US cider - lets see what pkb thinks regarding comparison to the latter).

I am particularly interested in trying the Horn cider as it sounds very similar in concept to the cider I make at home (i.e. champagne style with a high proportion of BdB).

As for the weather, it can't be much worse than what we have been enduring lately in the NW of England! I am hopeful though, my forecast app shows 24C in Copenhagen next Tuesday. Fingers crossed...

Regards

Miles
