Hi Folks,

Just stumbled across the Cider Workshop, seems like an incredible resource!

I'm a hobby cider maker, make approximately 200 gallons of cider per year for friends/family/fun. I was able to get about 400 pounds of dabinett and porters perfection 2 years ago that vastly improved my ciders, unfortunately no longer have access to that particular source. I'm growing my own apple trees, but a ways out from a harvest.

How do people find cider specific apples in Washington state to buy in bulk (assuming ~400 lbs is bulk)? I'm hoping to find some to press this October. Any contacts or resources would be greatly appreciated, googling didn't turn up much for me. I'm in Bellingham, but understand the orchards I'm looking for would likely be in eastern Washington.

Thanks, and excidered to discover the Cider Workshop!
-Tomás

Hi Tomas,

You might try ciderauction.com, although they are indeed in eastern WA
and actually sell juice for fermentation rather than apples themselves.
They sell amounts from small bottles up to 240 gallon totes. The range
of apples seems to vary from year to year based on availability, but
maybe you'll find varieties you want to give a try. Definitely worth a look!

Hi Tomas,

NW Cider is another great community in Washington and growers often post excess fruit availability.

I recently saw a grower offering fruit there - let me see if I can find that email and  forward it to you.

Hello,
Just hopping in on this thread.
My name is Dave Klawer. I am a Cider Apple grower in Skagit Valley on the west side of the Cascade mountains in Washington state, about 1 hour north of Seattle. Skagit Valley offers some of the richest soils on the planet and our temperate climate along with substantial rainfall makes for ideal growing conditions unparalleled for cider fruit as well as about 90+ other crops.
I have signed a contractual lease agreement with Washington State University (where I per sued my Masters in Agriculture ) and am currently in charge of a cider fruit production orchard at the WSU extension (NWREC) Mount Vernon. In addition I have my own growing orchards in the area. We will have too much fruit for me to use for my own purposes and I will be looking to sell fruit by the bins. We will likely have an abundance of Ashmeads Kernels, Golden Russet, Dabinnet, and Porter’s Perfection.

Please let me know if this is of interest.

Hi Dave!

Thanks for chiming in!

May I ask how much a pound for your Golden Russets and Porters Perfection? Or per bin?

I’ve used Kiyokawa family farms in hood river quite a few times when my trees were smaller. Great quality cider apples and a really cool fruit farm. I’d suggest sending an email about what cider apples you want as availability wasn’t always up to date on their website. https://kiyokawafamilyorchards.com/

Hood river is probably too far of a drive, but I thought I’d share just in case

I put this up a couple days ago but it seems to have disappeared.
I have a dedicated cider orchard in the upper Skagit Valley where ive been growing a dozen varieties of English and French sharps, Bittersweets and bitttersharps for 25 years. You can check it all out on our website Skagitvalleyfruit.com.

Sourcing from China or other Asian Countries,

I'm planning to start up an apple cider start up business in South east Asia but Just wondering if any of you here know any supplier of apple juice from China or other parts of Asia  as the proximity issue is the number one consideration.
Thanks.

Hello Tomas….

I may have just what you need!  Richard here from Methow Cider over in Winthrop.  After 20 years of Cider making I am retiring from the biz, but we still have our Cider specific Orchard, although a little battered from well below zero temperatures. The Orchard is still producing McIntosh, Roxberry, russet, Harrison, Foxwell, and other Apples specifically for Cider making. I could get you five or six mixed bins of Apples each bin will produce 50 to 60 gallons of juice. At  $325 a bin.  Email me at. Metho...@gmail.com.  Hopefully we can make a deal!
