Hi All.

My local wine and U-Brew place can not do a 25 litre bottling for me before xmas.

Has anyone any experience in using a sodastream to carbonate by the litre as you go.  I can likely find a used on locally and then just need to buy a couple of the CO2 containers.

TIA for comments.

RH.

I used my sodastream once to try and carbonate cider. It was chilled, but still managed to go crazy and blow cider all over the place. You're welcome to borrow mine and give it a try Richard. But i found it was easier to use a corny keg, carb stone and co2 bottle for small batches than the sodastream.

Thanks Chris......

I just bought some Pin Kegs and someone donated a CO2 regulator.  Think I'm good now.

Your a super chap......If ever there was a Cider Medal for "Comeradare" you'd get my vote.

You can carbonate with pressure in a corny keg and a lot of time.   Shake the keg for faster carbonation.   Far easier is to get a carb stone for corny kegs:

Our current weather is good for doing this outdoors, but if you wish to carbonate in other times of the year, look at getting a chest freezer and a temperature controller.
I like the Johnson A419 controllers

A cheaper, somewhat less convenient option for the stone:

I've done it and wouldn't recommend it.

Sodastreams are made to carbonate water, to which flavor and sugar is then added. If you carbonate cider with residual sugar, it foams up nicely and spills all over the place. It semi works if you want a pint of cider, but it's not tidy or efficient.
