Hi,

The price difference between the two is about 4500 EUR. The extra money buys you adjustable mash thickness and belt speed in the KEB 400.

Are these features required to deal with different varieties of apples at different states of ripeness and worth the extra money?

Also, I was thinking of pairing it with a progressing cavity hopper pump with in buit grinder ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-0rljFpPVHk ) instead of Kreuzmayr's setup with features automatic start and stop of the elevator and grinder based on the fill level of the hopper. Will it be easy enough to synchronise a different set up with any of the above belt presses?

Thanks,
dhruv.

There is one more feature that the KEB400 has that the Eco does not I think. It is the possibility to add an automatic pump sensor that starts the pump when the juice pan is full of juice and stops the pump when it is empty. This machine produces about 400 -600 liters/h and I would think that it is a good feature to have, unless you can gravity feed your juice into a large tank. The Eco does not have a juice pan, but only a central channel to divert the juice to the side of the press, where you have to collect it and either pump manually or move manually.
Also, the Eco is constructed slightly different. The side walls are made of several components and screwed together, vs a single sheet of stainless. > More nooks and crannies for mash to hide and mould.

As for the pump feeding the press, you will probably have to trickle in your apples as not to overfeed the press. I am not sure how well these pumps do with running dry and or start up with apples inside the grinder. I would imagine you will have a hard time starting and stopping it with product inside the grinder. Alternatively you can add a variable speed drive to it, but then your grind might not be good enough for the pump as it turns too slow.
The price for one of these pumps is probably similar then a KWEM1000 I would imagine, which is a proven solution for the KEB400.

I have run both the KWEM1000 and KEB400 and it works really well.

Hi Remo,

Thanks for your reply. Do you use the belt speed and mash thickness adjustment feature? I think the juice pan with a level controller rigged pump is within my limited technical skillset.

Your point with regard to a potential problem with starting and stopping of the pump loaded with apples is definitely something I had not considered. Thanks for that! The feeding of the apples could be automated with a hopper level controller but no good if the pump has trouble starting full.

Dhruv

I definitely use the speed and cake thickness of the press. Especially with deteriorated fruit you need to thin out the cake you put on the press, otherwise it will leach out the sides of the press and make a mess of your juice. You can also control sediments, yield and throughput much better if you can adjust speed and thickness, in combination with belt pressure.

I am not sure how much that pump costs, but a KWEM1000 is around 8k Euros and is designed to go with the KEB400 and it works. I would think that pump will cost more. Do you know?

Hi Remo,

I'm waiting to receive a quote for the pump. I would be surprised if its as expensive as the KWEM1000. A mash pump offers much for flexibility but price will be the ulitmate decider. Will post the price here when I receive the quote.

Thanks,
dhruv.
