I tried to post earlier about Grundy type tanks, but may have a glitch
and not sent anything, so here goes again.
I am looking at a couple of Grundy style SS tanks for cider making,
and am curious how other cider makers have found these tanks to be to
work with. Beer brewers, a quick Google search reveals, seem to have
a love-hate relationship with them. They love them because they are
affordable, they hate them because they have to use them. Is anyone
using these as fermentation/carbonation tanks for cider, and if so
what problems have you had?
Any input would be appreciated.

I use a 3 1/2 barrel Grundy for chilling and carbonation, the top entry lid
requires eight lugs to secure. Other than making modifications to the lid
for CIP and a pressure gage I consider the tank an excellent find and
serviceable. What kind of problems other have encountered? Searches for a
companion tank over the years have not been successful so I am not certain
they are easy to find.

I use Grundy tanks and they are excellent. However the last two I bought only have loose lids,  unlike others that have a dished lid with a sprung clamp. I thought I would easily pick up a secondhand lid, clasp and seal and I can ( Andrew sent a link ) but at a cost of £250, the tanks were less than that !

So I am looking at trying to make my own modified lid instead

Thank you for the replies. At the moment we can only purchase one of
the three tanks available, and they aren't quite as cheap as I thought
they might be, but this is a pressure tank within our budget.
Beer brewers seem to have endless problems with the tanks leaking,
not holding pressure, etc., but they probably use the tanks more
intensively than we cider makers do.
It sounds as though the tanks are a lot cheaper in the UK!
