Hi all

Can anyone recommend a good filter for up to 1000li at a time. We have a rover pompe 20cm x 20cm but it clogs up quickly...suspect it's not designed for that capacity.

Is the cider you’re running through the filter hazy or clear? I have 1000L tanks and if my cider looks nice and clear, I run it through a 0.45 micron filter with no issues. Otherwise I do a couple of passes starting with coarser filter pads.

I have a 25 year old 20x20 pad filter that I recently replace the pump. I does about 100 gallons in 30 min I use a coarser filter >1 micron. It sounds like you may have clearing problems and might consider fining prior to filtering.

Filtration is tricky no matter what size or type of filter you use. There is no magic solution unfortunately. As it was mentioned, it is important to clarify your cider adequately first. Then, the sequence of filtration size is important: If you start with a fine or sterile filtration, the pores of your filter pads will get plugged right away + you are going to strip a lot of desirable attribute off. Make sure to start with a coarse and a medium filtration prior to going into the fine and sterile. It is counterintuitive here but you'll preserve more aromas and color going that route; And a lot less frustration!
