To test a slightly hazy cider to see if it contains pectin, the standard procedure is to add methylated spirits to a sample and observe.  Since it is the presence of alcohol which causes the pectins to clump, could I not use vodka or grain alcohol in place of the methylated spirits to perform this test?
Since I have these on hand that sure seems easier to me, but I suppose they might contain other ingredients which could create misleading results.

The main ingredient they will contain is water. What you really need is
as close to 100% alcohol as possible to make the test as sensitive as
possible. Vodka at 40% alcohol is unlikely to be so effective.
