Hi all,

I am getting through a bit of Westons Organic this autumn (sorry Ray)
and wonder if I could re-use the bag/tap.?

The tap appears to be very firmly attached but I'm sure you bright
sparks out there have figured out how to recycle them.

Help appreciated,

Glenn

Oh no we've not!!! Oops, sorry, slipped into Panto-season...

We have had many debates about this on-line and over a pint or three. When
fully pushed home, the taps on B-i-B's are *very* difficult (ie:
impossible?) to remove. Many have tried boiling water, pans of simmering
water, brute strength, pliers, mole-grips, etc, etc.

However, if someone out there in ciderland does manage to get the tap out
without destroying the bag, please let us know!

Cheers,

Ray

Why not try filling it through the tap - ie: reversing the flow? You might
have to use a larger diameter tube constrained against the tap body in order
to get the liquid past the tap spigot (a - fresh but washed - condom with
the tip cut off?).
Squeeze all the air out first or part fill with water and then squirt it out
driving the air ahead of the water before introducing the cider.
Nick
Ps: hope this doesn't start a new thread when none was intended...

Hello Ray
Easy solution.
Load land rover with thirty B-in-Bs for delivery.
Drive to within 100 yards of first drop.
Go over sleeping policeman.
Return to yard and repack 29 B-inBs.
Discard bag with "popped" tap.
Et viola!
I hope that this helps you more than it did me.
Best wishes
Guy.

Hi Glenn

I think not, whenever I go to a cider farm for my own supplies I get them to put the tap in with 2 clicks so I can reuse the bags. However when we send them out via CiderPunk.com and CiderProvider.com they always go in with 3 clicks and I have never managed to get a tap out which has gone in that far.

As Nick has suggested, it is possible to back fill the bags through
the tap. The easiest way of doing this is to buy a BiB tap adaptor
like the pubs use ( available from Jigsaw ). Attach a plastic tube to
the adaptor. Fit a small funnel fitted to the free end of the tube.
Pour into the funnel to refill the bag.

I would only recommend this for private reuse. It should never be done
for the resale of cider as it is difficult to be absolutely sure that
sterility has been maintained. The new purchaser would also probably
take exception to the fact that the tamper proof seal is missing!

Thank you both, I have just ordered my connector from Jigsaw, a
bargain at only £6. 76 including postage.

Of course it will be for home use only.
