Hi All,

I’m sure we all share a similar problem but can anyone suggest a good packaging process when sending out orders?

We currently send out cases of 12x500ml glass bottles packaged in a cardboard box. We place an extra layer of cardboard in the bottom of the box which is then separated into 12 different sections by inserts, so the bottles don’t clang together. Further to that we wrap each bottle in bubble wrap and put a thin layer of foam over the top before taping the box up and labelling it fragile, yet we still get to many breakages.

We currently use a courier company called Scarlet Couriers who are part of the overnight APC network and interested to know if you have experienced problems with this organisation, if you use them or do you have any recommendations for other courier companies?

Regards,

Ben

The main problem is the bottles are made of such thin glass now, apart from ore packaging or stronger bottles there aint a lot you can do.

Do APC cover breakages in their insurance? From my searches the only way to send alcohol that is covered with proper insurance is the Royal Mail.

Has anyone tried “foam in bag” packing?

I don’t know the price and have never seen it used for bottles but it does a very good job at protecting stuff.

They don’t cover for breakages in their insurance but will refund the delivery costs, which is a little satisfying. I will look into the Royal Mail as an alternative.

APC did have the cheek to ask me if I sent my cases out in that condition.
I'm sure if the see the sign 'Fragile' they get encourage to see how fragile
it is.

Ben
