In case you didn't hear, the city council unanimously passed the bike corral motion.
Read about it:

There's still a lot of work to do... We need to:
- nail down funding (some from Neighborhood Council... other sources... probably need about $4-5K)
- work with city to finalize a design
- negotiate a maintenance agreement
- install!!! celebrate!!!

Sounds like Ramon and Matt are planning some sort of interim celebration at Cafe de Leche soon...

Well done Joe, Ramon, Matt, and everyone!

I’m not sure what the process and timeline will be for drafting design for DOT approval, but thought I’d put an idea out there while I’m thinking about it.

I believe part of the request will be to remove the existing sidewalk bike racks. It looks like most corral designs weld the inverted U racks to a base plate before attaching to the street. We should request to use the existing racks(s) that will be removed as one of the new racks to further reduce project cost.

Note also that the Bike Oven has a professional metal worker/welder “on staff” who can likely be recruited to assist with construction.

Thanks,

Dave Matsu
