I have previously posted to this forum on the topic of the importance of knowing and using the native script form of people names.
I consider it also important to know how to pronounce a personʼs name. Many times when I encounter an unfamiliar name, I do not know how to pronounce it. When I first meet a person whose name I do not know how to pronounce then I just ask them how to pronounce it. I frequently need reminders on how to pronounce the name😀
Most Universities have staff that come from many parts of the world. Such staff often have names which us Brits have no idea how to pronounce. So, my suggestion is that For staff info listings on University websites there could be associated audio files giving the correct pronunciation of staff names. An audio file per person.
Such a practice would further help to create a culture of internationalisation throughout a University.
