Wednesday 6 am club

I have been to the beach a couple of times this month early on a Wednesday, and guess my surprise: it is Grand Central Station for open water swimmers!
Well not quite, but each time there were a few people who met at Grimaldo's chair (now labeled as such), and swam, some of them members of the Brooklyn Triathlon Club, but also others.

I swam with them for a bit this am, and almost collided with another group of swimmers coming the other way.
Quite a surprise after so many solo am swims.
Nice sunrise to boot.

I made arrangements for next Wednesday at 6 am, so anyone feel free to join the zoo.

Water was a bit rough, and swimming was not so easy. I kept it short this am.

Hoping to make that 6:30am swim this week... Tue & Wed AM look iffy - 60% chance of rain & thunder + winds 10-18 mph w/ higher gusts. But Thurs & Fri likely to be warm and clear. What's your week like?

Hey Charlotte. I know I dropped off the face of the earth. But I'm interested in an early Thirsday AM swim. I have an icy swim next Sunday and I'm trying to break in a long sleeve suit. They don't seem to be any good unless you have broken them in all season. At least that's how long my sleeveless one took.

This week I could do Wednesday or perhaps Friday early. Wednesday is still the easiest day for me to go.
We can look at forecasts later today and see how tomorrow (Wednesday am) shapes up, otherwise Friday might be ok.

If you live anywhere between Manhattan and CI I could give you a lift there, I drive. After swim I have to make my way to the Bronx, so it would be harder to do a drop- off then.

I'm going to try and join you guys on Friday,  if that's okay. I think I mentioned it before, but I have a very cold water tri this weekend and need to practice in the long sleeved wet suit.

OK - let's try for Friday. I will confirm on Thursday night (hope to be over my cold by then). 

Andreas, if this is a go, I wouldn't mind a ride at 5:30am. I could meet you on the corner of Flatbush Ave and St. Marks Ave in Brooklyn.

I guess we will start swimming in the dark - looks like sunrise that morning is at 6:45am!

Don't know how ambitious you are, but I am ok if we meet at, say 5.45, and start swimming around 6.15.

i got a reading of 68 down at west 22nd street coney island at 1:30pm today

 

jones beach is at 68 degrees

 

most of the sites around nyc are in the 68 to 70 degree range
