Netflix has some wonderful shows. Its great platform to binge watch shows and movies. But what happens when your Netflix Accounts or other online service platform accounts which has your personal information gets compromised. What are the safeguards and remedial actions that you need to take. My personal experience might give you the insight how the hijacking might have happened and what actions are to be taken.

I reluctantly opened my free Netflix account on 21st October 2018, I gave one of my debit card information for the monthly subscription. I strictly watched the shows on PC and Laptop at first. I downloaded Netflix application to my Moto G5 Plus on 24th October 2018.

The first step one needs to take is to block the debit card linked to the Netflix account. So, I did the same. The second was to change the passwords for my banking accounts and email linked to Netflix, did the same. Third, check if your mobile is hacked, Mine was Moto G5 Plus. So, I checked the email linked to my phone.

Netflix Gerardo: Thank you for waiting. Looking at the account now, seems like someone took a free ride on your Netflix account. Here's what we can do, we can update the account information. Block the email used and switch it back to your email. Sign out all the devices and reset the password. This way, we can ensure that your account is fully protected.

Netflix Gerardo: You email has been changed back to kamal...@gmail.com. Also I signed out your netflix account to all devices it has been logged in to. This may take up to 8 hours to take effect on all devices and affects all profiles in this account. To ensure that no one will be changing it again I sent you an email to change the password of your account. By the way, in case there are changes in the profile you can restore it back using this guide Click Here. If there are deleted histories unfortunately we cannot restore them anymore.

Netflix Gerardo: We at Netflix do not have information how they got to your account. Like other account, most of the time they get access thru your devices, site pop ups and email links. So please consider changing your personal email password too just to be safe. Please Click Here too for more information on how you can secure your account.

Netflix Gerardo: I would also recommend you printing or saving the transcript on your email as it will be offered after the end of the chat so you will have time to back read some of the important information I provided. Expect that it may take several minutes before you can receive the transcript through your email.

1. The customer care executive had told the hijack might have happened via phishing attack. But being a cybersecurity enthusiast, I never click unknown links or install unknown apps in my mobile. And Since, the logging in happened before email was changed and the password recovery questions asked for debit card details, I concluded hijacking might have happened through either of:

most of its back-end server infrastructures don't leave for more than three days. Some only exist for a few minutes. So, compromising the systems, becomes really, really challenging when your environment is constantly changing.

2. Fortunately, I used separate mobiles one for my entertainment and one for banking/personal use. The Moto G5 Plus had only entertainment apps like Netflix, games, news apps. Now, it made sense to use two mobiles, one with utmost cyber hygiene for your banking transactions and personal communication. And One for entertainment and leisure.

1. Do not download unknown or unnecessary apps on your mobile which asks for payment or personally identifiable information (e.g.: DOB, Full Name, GOVT IDs, Debit Card/Credit Card Information, etc.,).

I cancelled my services with virgin in December 2023 but Netflix is constantly being added since October. No one in our household uses Netflix and when we had the equipment it was someone elses email that was logged in on the box. Someone we don't know. It's not a friends email nor family.

Since arguing with virgin about this since October and being told it was sorted. we have discovered its still on the old account. I have logged in, went to entertainment services and manually cancelled but any time its cancelled and confirmed, the next day its active again.

no one in virgin media seems to want to help. They're okay for other people, actual strangers to hack into peoples accounts and add services. They are not one bit bothered about helping customers at all.

Just so we can be clear, you mentioned that you cancelled your services with us in December 2023, meaning that you should no longer be receiving bills from us. Are you still receiving bills from us with the Netflix charge on there? Or are you just querying the historic charges?

I've been calling since october, every time I do im told its being added on because Im using it. You tell me to go to Netflix, i have and they say its nothing to do with them because there is no active email. as i said i left virgin media in december and yet still being told i owe 17.99 a month. All you do is credit the account and close any active complaints. This needs to be resolved because your making me do all the running around.

Hey, look Beth - another customer who is having a Netflix account automatically added and re-added to their Virgin Media account number. It's almost as though you have a problem somewhere in your system. You've been telling me you do "thorough investigations and have found no problems at your end". Now, is that really true? I'd suggest not.

As I've no options for to upgrade or downgrade so as it's a fully flexible package it's seems rather odd especially as it can't be upgraded through Netflix themselves either as it's BT/EE TV that manages the account...

Absolutely I agree but it doesn't show the management box for netflix at all in my manage TV extras but i can manage everything else that's included with VIP/The WORKS as it's now called I'm hugely disappointed with the service from BT especially given the premium price we pay for the packages.

I've been asking about this since October and I had the TV package removed as it's an ongoing issue as was being told 2 old accounts had been closed off but they clearly hadn't been it's dreadful really is.

I suspect @roger4269 there is an issue with your account . (I can see options to manage Netflix on MYBT so the functionality to manage still seems there.) Who managed your account fixes in October , was it the TV experts or Mods on the community or the normal customer service team ?

I've paid good money from October for the TV package untill I said enough is enough but obviously not said everything was fixed so I gave it another go & placed the order and it to be honest I'm absolutely sick of it now as not had anything refunded for the TV service since day 1 either it's a shambles plus I had to fix my own broadband issues too after the BT open reach technician couldn't fix it....

Netflix spearheaded the streaming movement and changed at-home entertainment as we know it. For this reason, it remains one of the giants of the industry today. Scammers often impersonate well-known, trustworthy companies, making a household name like Netflix a prime target. With scam texts holding their spot atop the list of phone-scam threats, Netflix text scams were all but inevitable.

Phone scammers steal billions of dollars from Americans every year, leaving them with drained bank accounts and lingering psychological effects. However, there are ways to protect oneself and fight back. Keep reading to learn about Netflix text scams and how to avoid falling for fake messages.

Netflix text scams are a specific type of smishing attack (which is a type of phishing scam) whereby fraudsters try to get valuable personal information from their targets by disguising themselves as Netflix. They hunt for sensitive data like credit card numbers, email addresses, and login credentials they might use to hack into other accounts. Some scammers go directly for your money, while others sell your stolen data on the dark web.

One type of Netflix text scam claims your account has been put on hold, possibly due to declined payments or suspicious account activity. The text contains a link and instructs you to follow it to input your credentials, update your information, and regain access to the streaming service. Unfortunately, the link actually sends you to a fake website where scammers can steal your information. Alternatively, it may download malware onto your device.

Scammers like to center scams around problems with payment or billing information because it allows them to target your most sensitive data right away. Some Netflix text scams claim you must update your payment details because your card expired or was declined. As usual, they send a link that allegedly allows you to update your financial information and reactivate your account, but your financial details go right to the scammer.

Many different types of scams involve the same kinds of tactics, which means they feature some of the same red flags. Some warning signs are easy to spot, while others are a bit more subtle. The quicker you recognize the signs, the quicker you can shut down the scammer.

Although Netflix may not be able to reimburse you after a scam text, telling them about your experience may allow them to protect others from going through it themselves. You can forward Netflix scam text messages to phis...@netflix.com.

You can also report scam texts to the authorities to help them combat scammers and build their global databases. Getting your money back after being scammed can be difficult, but quickly alerting the authorities and giving them all of the information you can may improve your chances of catching the criminal.
