Error code 1-5 suggests a few possible issues with your garage door opener rather than a single specific problem. The source of the malfunction can be the electric opener, the garage door, or both. If your garage door opener fails to open or close the garage door, you can use the manual release function until the problem is fixed. Read on to find out how to fix the issue based on your symptoms.

Possible issues include a binding garage door, balance issues, obstructions in the door path, broken or worn rollers, springs, hinges, bent or misaligned tracks, and sections. Begin by disconnecting the garage door from the opener using the manual release, then operate the door manually and test its balance.

Although sometimes error code 1-5 can be an easy fix, in more complex situations, the error can suggest that there are multiple issues with the garage door and the garage door opener. For example, there can be a scenario where multiple defective parts will need replacement, like the control board, the motor and the springs.

Ongoing preventative servicing ensures that your door continues to function within factory specifications, greatly reduces the risk of failure and repair bills down the track and ensures you maintain your Warranty.

B&D recommends that you check the operation of your Sectional Door at least every six months (more regularly in extreme environments or frequent use). To keep your door running well, it is recommended that your door be serviced, by an experienced door technician, within the first 12 months on installation and then every 2 years (more regularly in extreme environments or frequent use), or earlier if required.

We suggest you record your full Key letter and Number on the front of this manual and if replacement keys are required, they can be obtained from your nearest B&D office, simply by quoting this number. If the keys have been lost and the number not recorded, it can be found stamped into the locking arm at the back of the mechanism.

Care should be taken not to damage the Nylofelt, however, if Nylofelt is cut or damaged, a lighted match should be used to quickly seal the ends of the nylon braiding, so as to stop any further deterioration.

If you have checked these (and corrected where necessary) and the door is still difficult to operate, , then your door will need a service to adjust the spring tension and possibly other operational parts of the door.

This service should only be carried out by an experienced door technician, using the correct tools.

If you have an automatic opener fitted to your door, it is particularly important that you ensure the optimum operation of the door, otherwise you may reduce the effective life of the opener.
