You cannot view FileOpen protected documents in the Chrome browser, but you can change Chrome's settings so that you open PDF documents in Adobe Acrobat / Reader.

You can set this up by following the instructions below:

**Note: This will open documents in your default PDF viewer application. So you will need Adobe Acrobat / Reader, Bluebeam or Foxit set as your default PDF viewer in order for this setup to work properly with FileOpen protected documents.

If you are using Mac OSx 10.8+ protected documents can no longer be viewed in Safari. The best practice is to open the protected document using the "Open with a Different Viewer" button in Firefox (image below).

Please check to see if somehow Adobe's certified mode has been enabled. This will prevent the FileOpen plug-in from loading and cause this problem. The checkbox at Adobe Reader > Preferences > General > Use only certified plug-ins MUST be unchecked for proper plug-in operation:

I downloaded fresh Fiji today on my Windows 10, and tried to open the example data, but it is giving me the error below. Interestingly, I was able to open the same file with an old Fiji (April 2022) I had on my computer. Wondering if this could be fixed?

Thanks for your reply.
I tested a few archived versions of the fiji-win64.zip file, and I found that the file is opening fine (without even updating Fiji) up until version 20220913-1629. After that it starts giving the error. Here are different versions I tested:

This is specific to my current computer. The file opens fine on another Windows 10 machine with freshly downloaded Fiji (with no update). I checked both machines and they have the same Java version. Not sure what is causing the error on my current computer?

When I disable the FunImageJ update site, it said bigdataviewer_fiji will be updated, but bigdataviewer-core and -vistools will be uninstalled. It also said those come from the Labkit update site, for some reason. I did uninstall them, closed Fiji, and after reopening, updated it again, and it pulled both digdataviewer-core and bigdataviewer-vistools from Java-8 and it works again.

I hired a freelancer to create a SketchUp file for me. He sent it to me. But the only way to open it is a link. I have always been able to open files with SketchUp viewer. I also downloaded a newer Viewer. He said his is 2018. a pop up always appears that asks me to open in the Schools app. But I cannot add the Schools app.
what am I doing wrong? this has taken hours and now two days. it was suppose to be a quick and easy help for my design work!

If you are using SketchUp 2017 Make, you would not be able to open files made with SketchUp 2018. If you are using the web based free version you should be able to upload and open the 2018 version of the file. In either case those versions would be inappropriate for your work.

She did say that she has downloaded a new Viewer. My answer was assuming she did indeed download the newer viewer, but when opening a SKP Windows somehow was suggesting Schools app as the owner of SKP. Not sure what Schools app is.

Every time I tried to open his file that was sent to me, it would say open it in another app. And the only app that was offered was sketch up for schools. Which I cannot download because I am not a student.

One thing to try would be to email the model to yourself. I just did a test where I sent a WeTransfer link to my iPhone, of a demanding 146 MB model. I downloaded that to the iPhone and then opened the model from inside the viewer app (using the cloud icon, and Files on Device option). I did get the complaint about the model being big, but it opened quickly, and worked well.

700MB sounds enormous even if the model contains every little detail. What happens if you open it in your laptop, open the Model Info>Statistics panel and click on the Purge Unused button a couple of times. My guess is that the file has lots and lots of unused stuff in the file, just slowing it down and putting the Viewer application in your Ipad to its knees.

Hi Colin, tried that lots, saved it to files in my iPad and then opened directly in viewer it comes up with the message that its a big file and i should make sure the other apps are closed, i do that, it then says its loading for ages, then eventually the app just shuts down and the file never opens, no further error messages etc.

I am unsuccessfully trying to open a 400mb skp file using the Viewer on an iPad 7th gen. I was considering upgrading to an iPad pro which has more RAM, but by looking at your issue it seems that the Pro might not be able to open this file either.

Hi no I never managed to get it to open the file on the ipad pro even when I did all of the model clean up steps that were suggested which reduced the file to below 400MB. In the end I returned the ipad pro and bought a Surface Book 3 which is able to open the model ok.

.style files are Access data files (.mdb) and .stylx files are SQLite data files (.sqlite). Although the files can be opened in other programs, and even edited, doing so risks corrupting the style file.

Not sure what you are asking. If you are new to SQLite, About SQLite or SQLite - Wikipedia are good places to start. If you are looking for a program to open or edit SQLite files, there are numerous properietary and open-source options available, just search for "SQLite browser" or "SQLite viewer" or something along those lines.

Lately when I download a PDF in Chrome and click the downloaded file in the bar at the bottom, it opens in chrome. I would like it to open in adobe as default, since I download mostly files with comments or stuff Chrome doesn't support anyway. I have seen this, but it makes chrome download all files and open them in Adobe.

So what I want is: if I click a random PDF, it should open in the chrome browser, if I click a downloaded file from the bar at the bottom or from chrome://downloads it should open the file in Adobe. (Just as it used to be two weeks ago). Is that still possible?

In Chrome, type chrome://plugins/
Find the Chrome PDF Viewer and click Disable
From your browser, click a PDF file; it should show at the bottom as a downloaded file.
Click the arrow next to the downloaded file, and choose Always open files of this type(You may need to manually click Open on any recent files you want to view, otherwise...)
The next time you click a PDF file, it should open however your computer is configured to open PDF files. If that method is via Adobe Reader or Adobe Acrobat (standard, pro), then that should meet the need you expressed in your question.

2- You can click on the file name's small (upside) arrow in the "Downloads bar" at the bottom, and, click on "Always open with system viewer". However, this works only for this downloaded file, not other downloads (it should be a bug though)!

3- After doing the above three steps, when you click on a file in the download bar, it first opens another tab and closes it quickly (another bug, which is a little annoying)! But then opens the file in your PDF viewer anyway.

A new tab opens and displays the software which uses file extensions for document management. Click on the DETAILS tab which appears in the Adobe box. The page titled at the top, "Adobe Acrobat: PDF edit, convert, sign tools", appears.

A new tab opens titled, "Adobe Acrobat Preferences". Turn on the "OPEN PDFS IN ACROBAT" option by clicking the gray/blue toggle bottom to its right. It is the first option. Click SAVE PREFERENCES at the bottom of the page.

You may want to clear history and cache in Chrome and in your computer. For Chrome: Right hand three vertical dot menu-->Settings-->Privacy and security-->Clear browsing data-->Under Advanced, for ALL TIME, check Browsing history, Download history, Cookies and other site data, and Cached images and files. Click CLEAR DATA.

However, when I drag and drop a PDF or image it embeds and displays them in the note. PDFs are displayed in the in-note PDF viewer, instead of as a link. Is there any way to open these in an external viewer, or at least reveal them in navigation?

The built-in driver does not seem to have this option, and I don't see a variable that holds the file name for the last pdf plotted. Is there a way to automatically open a newly created pdf in a pdf viewer?

Having the option to automatically open a pdf after printing is common. Both Bluebeam and docuPrinter have this option. I think the built-in function in Autocad does, too. I find it much more convenient to have the drawings open automatically and all in one instance of my pdf program. I sign my drawings either with electronic signatures or using the pen tool and flatten tool, so ultimately the pdf files have to be opened in a real pdf program.

You may want to have a look at PDF X-change from Tracker Software, that works quite nicely and a new purchase with 3 years of maintenance is even less than one year of Bluebeam Extreme maintenance. The only thing is does not as well as Acrobat and Bluebeam is showing 3D PDF files as the models will be all black instead of having colour but they are still working on the 3D PDF stuff so this should improve over time.

Assembly structure of the model can be navigated through the tree browser, displaying the names of parts and their instances in the assembly (if available). Assembly components can be hidden or shown as necessary to inspect the model. The selected sub-assembly or part can be queried for its properties including names, product information as well as geometrical ones (area, volume, and centroid).
