We are visiting Pompeii later this month, and would like to hire a tour guide for Pompeii. It is a bucket list item for my 11-year-old, so I don't feel that the audio tour will be sufficient. I contacted Gaetano @ www.pompeiitourguide.com, but 290 EUR for our family of 4 is more than I want to spend. Any other recommendations for guides, especially those good with older children?
Just did this tour with Walks of Italy, -tours/ with Sonia. Absolutely wonderful. She loves Pompeii and easily expressed her knowledge and love. But, sadly, still pricey. Our group was quite small, 5, but 2 had failed to show up.
We did the same as Beth, when you buy your tickets at the booth there will be an option to buy a guided tour. The group was small and hit all the highlights and was not long and drawn out, which may be a bit much for an 11 year old who may be more interested in walking around and not standing and listening to someone talk. Plus the cost is very reasonable so if your kid gets antsy no big loss if he get uninterested and you need to just wonder away and do your own thing.
