When looking at the available Malayalam keyboard language choices, we did see another choice, Malayalam-Standard. This other one looks to have different characters to choose from. Give that a try and see if it helps.

You can see for yourself the difference between the keyboards by using Keyboard Viewer. To get that, check its box in system prefs/language & text/input sources and then select it in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen.

I have the same question. I have the new OS version 10.11.4. I am trying to get malayalam type on my system. But I can't find the tabs that youexplained in the previous answer. Please help. In system treference I see languges and region. I follwed the steps but can't find the tool bar or the flg to check. Please help

I am using iPhone 6 and i have recently updated to iOS 11.0.1. With this version my regional language (Malayalam) keyboard added now in list of available keyboards, but one basic consonant alphabet is missing or I cannot find it. Please find below the ISO 15919 transliteration for the character.

Also, replaced the Lohit-malayalam.ttf with Meera.ttf in /usr/share/fonts. The Meera.ttf is included with Alien runtime and is public domain font. It seems to be displaying the characters much better. Lohit is not displaying some charaters correctly. Font size is smaller, so it displays much better on keyboard. It seems to be too small on launcher icon labels, I don't know if that can be adjusted.

To add new keyboard layouts, go K-Menu --> System Settings --> Regional & Accessibility --> Keyboard Layout. In the Layout tab, check the Enable Keyboard Layouts box. and choose the keyboard layout you want, and click Add. Choose the appropriate Layout variant, and click on Apply to save your settings.

In this case, I suspect that the two different keyboards are outputting different Unicode characters for the same keystrokes (nta). I think that characters you are trying to display involve a chillu, and how chilu characters are encoded has changed over time. More information about chillu characters is in Chapter 12 of the Unicode Standard in the Malayalam section.
