I am running into an issue with my powershell script. The purpose is to disable outlook shared folders downloading. (This is for performance related issues) Yes, I know I could do it with GPO (even though this doesnt really work) but I want to be able to run a powershell script that does it. I have isolated the registry values that I think need to change. (See below) But when I change the value it is not reflected in outlook. I am thinking that it might be due to hashing in the registry. Not sure. I had an script I used to change the registry to make PDFs open in adobe acrobat and it used hashing.

If "Download shared folders (excludes mail folders)" is checked in Outlook, it should be disabled. Delegates should be working with calendars in real time and should not cache copies of resources on their computer which can result in slow performance of Outlook and/or become unresponsive. To disable this setting you need to do the following

turn off download shared folders outlook mac

Coming across more examples now as for instance running SQL Manager in the VM, load a SQL script file to edit from the shared folders mapped drive then when I try to save changes it says in use by another process yet if I load the same SQL file copied over to local (VM) disk it can save it fine.

Shared folders in Microsoft Outlook refer to folders that are shared by multiple users within an organization. These folders may include calendars, contacts, tasks, and other items, and they can be accessed and modified by authorized users. Outlook downloads these folders to the local cache when you enable the cached mode for shared folders. Follow the steps to enable cached mode for the shared folders and Public folder favorites.

To avoid these issues, you can turn off the Cached Exchange Mode for the shared mailbox. It helps prevent the OST file from growing beyond the recommended limit. Turning off cached mode can also remove potential sync issues and other Outlook performance-related issues.

I am not sure if it is helpful or not, but I was able to control access to folders using shortcuts. I created a new drive with the setting "Allow people who aren't shared drive members to access files" checked. Then created a folder that I wanted to share, made it "Restricted" and only added the users that I wanted to grant access to. I then created another drive, this was just to make mapping easier, where I added Shortcuts to the shared folders.

So then within "Shared Drives" and the "School Server" drive I did tried the opposite.... I gave no one permission to the Shared Drive called "School Server" but did give them permission to the folders within. This works HOWEVER, next problem, is that because they are not on the Shared drive, then cannot visibly see the "School Server". Now the shared folder (lets say "Secondary Schoo") needs to searched for (it doesn't even show under "Shared with me").... then, once found, needs be added as a shortcut to their My Drive....

All things considered, if you require to disable the Cached Exchange Mode for shared mailboxes in Microsoft 365, then this can be easily done. This will help resolve the issues of the oversized OST file & negatively impact user productivity. However, in case your OST file is already too large & inaccessible, then it is recommended that you turn to a reliable & cost-effective third-party solution like Kernel for OST to PST Converter.

Hello,
although eM Client works with Kerio partially, there are limitations such as non-displayed shared folders, inability to use multiple contact folders and few more. We have been trying to cooperate with Kerio on making this work (all these issue are rather on the server side). However, Kerio officially supports only Apple clients and does not plan to change this policy soon, hence they are not willing to cooperate on these issues.

Only folders shared through OneDrive, Microsoft Teams or SharePoint can be locally synced. Individual files can only be accessed via the website. Once a OneDrive folder has been locally synced, any changes made to documents within the folder or documents added to the folder will be automatically uploaded to the OneDrive cloud and downloaded to any other user accessing that shared folder.
