A Sequoia tradition for more than 75 years, Bearpaw is set 11.5 miles into designated national park Wilderness, high atop a 7,800-foot granite saddle overlooking the Great Western Divide. After hiking in to Bearpaw Camp and experiencing it firsthand, you'll walk away with unforgettable alpine memories. Bearpaw High Sierra Camp is open June through September.

To stay at Bearpaw, Wilderness Permits are required, but free of charge for guests confirmed at the High Sierra Camp. Guests do not need to reserve this permit in advance. If your wilderness trip includes overnight stays at locations other than the High Sierra Camp, such as continuing along the High Sierra Trail to Mount Whitney, you must obtain a wilderness permit and pay a fee; reservations are highly recommended. Permits need to be picked up in person at the Lodgepole Visitor Center.

I am a big fan of the multi functionality of the quilt. I have to carry too much weight for work already so a jacket and sleeping bag in one that now works well for both is a wonderful piece of gear to have in my pack and in camp. I have used it down to 0 degrees and been plenty warm. The materials seem to be very high quality and comfortable. I am excited to get years of use out of this quilt. I look forward to writing a review after I wear this one out and am purchasing a new one so I can see the improvements they continue to make as they learn more about their quilts. This one is nicer than the one I had years ago as there are more baffles.

The High Sierra Trail leads from Crescent Meadow up the canyon of the Middle Fork of the Kaweah River, crossing the Great Western Divide by the 10,700' (3261 meters) pass known as Kaweah Gap. It descends into Big Arroyo, then climbs up to the Chagoopa Plateau, and drops down again into the Kern River Canyon. After running up the bottom of the Kern Canyon, it turns east, climbing parallel to Wallace Creek up to the junction with the John Muir Trail, 49 miles (79 km) from the starting point. You can then follow the John Muir Trail about 13 more miles (21 km) to the summit of Mount Whitney. To hike the High Sierra Trail, please obtain a Wilderness permit for the High Sierra Trail.

**Please note that a High Sierra Trail permit is needed to access the High Sierra Trail between Seven Mile Hill and Kaweah Gap. A permit for the Alta Trail is not valid for travel on this segment of High Sierra Trail**

Altitude sickness is an illness that can occur when at high altitude (typically above 8,000 feet or 2,400 m). Symptoms of mild to moderate altitude sickness include dizziness, fatigue, headache, shortness of breath, and rapid heart rate. The best treatment for altitude sickness is to descend to a lower altitude.

Beyond Kern Hot Spring, the trail continues along the bottom of the glaciated valley of the Kern River. This canyon runs almost due north and south for about 25 miles (40 km) along the Kern Canyon fault. The trail ascends steadily to Junction Meadow (42 miles/67.2 km). Hiking along the bottom of the canyon can be hot and dry during the middle of the day. If you have camped at Kern Hot Springs, however, remember that cold air from the surrounding peaks flows down the canyon at night, and that the sun will not clear the 2000 to 5000' (610 to 1524 meter) high canyon walls until relatively late in the morning.

The Mount Whitney Hut was built at the summit in 1909 as a station for meteorological observations. The metal roof of this hut attracts lightning which can be conducted through the building to individuals inside. Do not seek shelter here during a storm. It is unsafe to be anywhere on top of the mountain or any exposed high place during a thunderstorm. Check the weather conditions before beginning the hike to the summit.

After trying all these suggestions, I think the answer is that OS 10.13.6 (Hi Sierra) is not supported by Gmail any longer. I even tried switching email clients, but the most common ones no longer support this OS. lastly, my aging MacBook Pro will not support a upgrade to a higher level OS. My work around is to use direct access to GMAIL when I am mobile and need my laptop or to use my IPAD which is a much newer device with a friendlier IOS operating system. I am sure that there are those of you out there that have more sophisticated solutions, but with no geek skills, that's what will work for me.

Another condition indirectly related to the long-lasting snow coverage will be an abnormally high number of blowdowns. Storms that bring heavy moisture also usually arrive with heavy winds, causing trees to fall.

Some of it will percolate into the soil, which is parched after multiple years of drought. But because the High Sierra is composed of impervious granite and because the high country has little top soil, most of it will flow into streams and creeks that eventually form large rivers like the Kern, Kings, San Joaquin, Merced, and Tuolumne. As a result, expect:

So you should really be using --release-name 5.1.7-high-sierra or whatever that does not match a git tag in the source. I hope this helps. Good luck, you may run in to other issues, but feel free to try it out.

I really don't know what to do. The only reason why I bought this printer was to print my line art and the quality is not acceptable at the moment, it's all pixelated and jagged lines from a high resolution 100% black file.

The file is in high quality, the printer is capable, I've installed the latest driver so what am I missing? This is my 3rd night with this printer and I am getting really desperate as I don't want to return it, especially because I gathered all the information and spoke to the support before purchasing it.

To artists, few portions of the High Sierra are, strictly speaking, picturesque. The whole massiveuplift of the range is one great picture, not clearly divisible into smaller ones; differing much in this respect from the older, and what may be called, riper mountains of the Coast Range. All the landscapes of the Sierra,as we have seen, were born again, remodeled from base to summit by the developing icefloods of the last glacial winter. But all these new landscapes were not brought forth simultaneously; some of the highest, where the ice lingered longest, are tens of centuries younger than those of the warmer regions below them.In general, the younger the mountain-landscapes,--younger,I mean, with reference to the time of their emergence from the ice of the glacial period,--the less separable are they into artistic bits capable of being made into warm, sympathetic, lovable pictures with appreciable humanity in them.

Here, however,on the head waters of the Tuolumne,is a group of wild peaks on which the geologist may say that the sun has but just begun to shine, which is yet in a high degree picturesque, and in its main features so regular and evenly balanced as almost to appear conventional--one somber cluster of snow-laden peaks with gray pinefringed granite bosses braided around its base, the whole surging free into the sky from the head of a magnificent valley, whose lofty walls are beveled away on both sides so as to embrace it all without admitting anything not strictly belonging to it.The foreground was now aflame with autumn colors, brown and purple and gold, ripe in the mellow sunshine; contrasting brightly with the deep, cobalt blue of the sky,and the black and gray, and pure, spiritual white of the rocks and glaciers.Down through the midst, the young Tuolumne was seen pouring from its crystal fountains, now resting in glassy pools as if changing back again into ice,now leaping in white cascades as if turning to snow; gliding right and left between granite bosses, then sweeping on through the smooth, meadowy levels of the valley, swaying pensively from side to side with calm, stately gestures past dipping willows and sedges, and around groves of arrowy pine; and throughout its whole eventful course, whether flowing fast or slow, singing loud or low, ever filling the landscape with spiritual animation, and manifesting the grandeur of its sources in every movement and tone.
