Cherry Hill Alumni and Parent
Are you aware that the East/West football game is being played at 6 pm on Wednesday night? We need to get the tradition of East vs. West back on Thanksgiving Day. Below are email addresses and a letter with a list of reasons why the game should be played on Thanksgiving. We need the community to email the principals and athletic directors at both East and West to voice our opinions for the rivalry and tradition of the thanksgiving morning day game.
We would like everyone’s email to look a little different. If you copy the email addresses and some of the reasons listed below to form your own unique email, this email campaign will not look like the same email being forwarded 300 times.
If you have questions feel free to email me.

As a member of the Cherry Hill Community, it has come to my attention that the annual Thanksgiving Day Football game between Cherry Hill High Schools East & West has been changed from the traditional Thanksgiving morning to the Wednesday evening before. It is the opinion of many that this is a bad idea and a mistake. Setting aside the long standing Thanksgiving morning tradition this game holds – there are numerous other important and otherwise logistical reasons for this game - NOT being played on Wednesday evening.
Ø Because it is Homecoming, this game is as important to past alumni as it is to the current student bodies. Many alumnae enjoy walking the perimeter each year & visiting with friends that they see only once a year - during this game!
Ø Older alumni that come home to Cherry Hill for the Thanksgiving holiday may arrive to the area at such a time that they cannot attend. They would miss the game!
Ø Local people that work in the corporate world or have businesses often do not get home until after 6 particularly before a long weekend. They could miss the game!
Ø Many recent graduates returning from college have classes on Wednesday afternoon & do not return home until late. These students would miss the game!
Ø The Wednesday before Thanksgiving is a big night for going “Out on the town.” Many folks may opt to go out instead of attending the game.
Ø A number of alumni arrived late to last year’s game because they did not know the game had been moved up by an hour. They were not happy.
Ø Many women who host Thanksgiving do much of their cooking & preparation Wednesday night. This enables them to pop their Turkeys in the oven before going to the game thus returning home to a near cooked bird.
Ø Families that have guests arriving from out of town Wednesday night & are busy at the airport, bus or train stations. They would not come to the game!
Ø The football players of West want to play Thanksgiving morning. To them it is about Tradition and Atmosphere! It’s about knowing when you wake-up you are going to play the last game of the season or the last of your life. It’s about a day game, may be playing in the snow, its knowing you will spend the rest of the day watching the Traditional Thanksgiving Day games on TV and eating the Traditional Turkey dinner.
Ø By making this change, you can almost be certain that the game will not have the attendance of year’s past. From a fiscal standpoint it would seem counterproductive for the district to host an event where your revenue may well drop.
I urge you to consider members of the Cherry Hill community past and present alike that love the Nostalgia and Tradition this game holds and move it along with all future East vs. West Football games to Thanksgiving morning. At a time when so many traditions are breaking down, it would seem sad to remove one more from our children’s experiences.
