Hi, all...

I'm setting up OneBody on Amazon EC2 to use for our church.

I had a few questions, mainly around privacy:

  1. Can anyone print a directory?  That is, is it possible to turn the 'email me a printed directory' option off?  We'd like this ability, but only as we generate and release the directory.
  2. I've found that when I generate a directory, the address sharing preferences set on users accounts are ignored.  Should all of the detail be included in the directory if users have elected not to share that info?
  3. Same type of question applies to the map.  The map under Directory shows locators and if you click on one, it shows the name of the person, essentially revealing where they live.  Is there a way to suppress this info based on the user's privacy preference?
  4. If I search for a name, click the person, and then their family, the map at the top of the screen show's their location.  If I click the locator pin, it shows their full address (again, even if they've chosen not to share it).
Thanks!  I like One Body and it is very very close to what we need - but privacy is a big concern because we will allow people to sign up at a kiosk in the church.  We'd like our members to control how much of their info is accessible.

Now - a few more technical questions:

  1. Is it possible to connect directly to the database backing one body to do mass edits?  Is it postgres, or mysql?
  2. Is it possible to backup the data and configuration in case we wanted to move to a different server, but not lose the data?

Thanks again, and sorry for all of the questions... I'm just very close to having everything where we can use it. :)

Have a blessed day.
Jeff

Oh - I'm using version 3.4.0.

Jeff:

Anyone who has "full access" can print a directory.

Address sharing prefs should be based on the user printing, so if you are an admin, then you will be able to see all details, even details that are hidden from normal users. You can try printing while logged in as a different (normal) user to see the difference.

This applies to all screens on the site. If there are pages that show map or address details to regular (non-admin) users when privacy settings disallow it, then that is a bug.

The database for OneBody is MySQL, and yes you can connect to it and manipulate it.

We have a wiki page about backing up here: https://github.com/churchio/onebody/wiki/Backups

Thanks so much, Tim! :)

This is helpful.

I see that if I turn off ‘Full Access’, then that user is unable to print the directory.  GREAT.

However, that user is also now unable to see the details that other users have made public.  They are informed that they only have limited access.
If I turn on Full Access, then they can now print the directory - and only see limited info for people (Address is excluded, etc) - which is even better in that the directory seems to only include the info they can see.  This is very close to what we want - but if they click the family they can see the map locator pin and see the full address displayed there… Or if they use the ‘Directory Map’ button they can see the pins for addresses that are set to private.  These last two items do seem like a bug to me.  Do they sound like bugs to you?

SOOO close.  Thanks so much! :)

Jeff

Yes, sounds like a bug. Would you mind posting that as a new issue here? https://github.com/churchio/onebody/issues/new
