Upcoming Events

RECTOR SEARCH COMMITTEE

Town Hall Meeting #1, Sunday, June 22, 11:30 am – 1 pm

Please come and join us for this important beginning to the process of selecting a new rector.  The Search Committee will be updating our parish profile that describes who we are as a congregation, the community we live in and characteristics we are looking for in our next rector.  The purpose of this town hall meeting, and others to come, is to gather from each of you as many perspectives and opinions as possible on who we are and our hopes for the future.  This profile will be posted along with a job description to give candidates an accurate picture of Epiphany and is critical in securing a rector who will be a good fit.  We need input from every Epiphany member.  Please come and be ready to discuss what Epiphany is to you and what characteristics you would like to see in our new rector.   The discussions will take place in small group format so that everyone can be heard.  Childcare and light snacks will be provided.

If you are unable to attend this important event there will be another town hall meeting to be scheduled in the second half of July.  If you have questions contact

More Notes of Interest

Amazing grace
I was so very pleased to sing Amazing Grace during the church service this past Sunday.  This is a very pretty hymn that is easy to sing, and is rarely used today.  (Perhaps the sentiment of God's Grace has grown old-fashioned.)  Besides enjoying singing this one, it brings back memories of my father.  My father had an excellent singing voice, though he did not sing much, and rarely attended church.  I do remember him singing sometimes on long car trips to amuse us children.  Amazing Grace was one of his staples.  I asked him once how he learned it.  He said that as a teenager in Northern Indiana in the early 1920s, there would be a Revival Meeting which came to his small farming community every summer.  A big tent would be set up, and services would be held every evening for a week before they moved on.  My father, who was quite social and always enjoyed a good show, would attend every night, thus learning the hymn Amazing Grace.  I asked him if he ever went up to the front to be saved, and he told me quite seriously, but with a twinkle in his eye, "Oh yes, many times!"  This story epitomized my father's religion to me.  He had a deep understanding and love for his fellow man, and lived his religion in the way he treated others every day, but he had little interest in attending church unless it was a good show!

I appreciate the fact that we are now gathering information on hymns that the congregation would like to sing, and hope that we sing more favorites of various members of the congregation, including those which may bring back special memories. — Mary Turnquist

Note of Thanks

It has been one year since my diagnosis of Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer, and Mary and I would like to thank everyone at Epiphany for all of your love and support over the past year.  My prognosis looks good; my energy level is improving;  and the doctors are amazed at my progress.  I know that this is due to the power of prayer that I've been receiving from all of you.  From the prayer quilt, to the meals, to the prayers your support has been incredible.  Mary and I are truly blessed to be part of such a loving and caring community.

We also wanted to a make you aware of an opportunity coming up on June 21-22 at Carlmont High School.  The American Cancer Society is sponsoring a Relay for Life from 10 AM on Saturday to 10 AM on Sunday.  Some of you participated last year and know what a fun day it is for everyone of any age.  If you are interested in donating to the cause or joining our team here is the link:
