Sunday, May 4

Contemplative Prayer is from 9:35 - 9:55 am
This time of silent meditation allows those gathered to prepare themselves for worship.

There is no Sunday School and all the kids will be with parents in church for the baptism of Emma Hsi Billing and the children's sermon.

GOODBYE SHELLEY
Our seminarian, Shelley Denney, will soon graduate and be ordained.  Today is her last Sunday here at Epiphany. Shelley wishes to thank all of the Epiphany Family for their kindness, help, and acceptance during these two years of field education.  She says “What a wonderful parish!”

Rector Search Committee
Many thanks to all the parishioners who participated in the application process for the Rector Search Committee.  The Vestry could have easily assembled two excellent committees from the number of applications we received.   We strived to put together a committee that represents a cross section of Epiphany, and believe we have done that.  The Vestry is pleased to announce the members of the Rector Search Committee:

Kristin Anderson – Co-Chair

    Charlotte Ziems – Co-Chair

    Laura Bierwagen

    John Buchanan

    Kent Holubar

    Dede Lehmkuhl

Mark Loveland

Connie Maysonave

Tamatha Rodwick

Gretchen Ross

H.D. Stevens

Greg Wilson

Thank you also to our Vestry members who willingly met every week for the past several weeks.  The meetings were long.  As a group, we left the meetings tired, but hopeful.  While reviewing applications together, we were reminded of the many excellent people who attend this church, and of the many reasons we love Epiphany and have come to call it our church home.

—Craig DeBrine, Sr. Warden and Liz Olson, Jr. Warden

Prayer and Action for Columbia
We will be participating in the "Days of Prayer and Action for Columbia," an ecumenical activity drawing attention to the plight of the people in Columbia who have suffered through decades of civil war. Today in our service we will be saying prayers on their behalf, and in the coffee hour we will be signing letters. For more information about the problems in Columbia, see these websites: http://www.peaceincolombia.org/

We look forward to your interest and participation. Thanks !

This is Epiphany's Confirmitzvah, and we hope the community will show up in force to celebrate the commitment to study, prayer and spiritual reflection made by the youth in the last year. At the service, youth will receive stoles as a sign of their readiness to interpret the scriptures and traditions of Christianity as members of the priesthood of all believers. stoles, beautifully made by Mary Wagner, are displayed in the Parish Hall today so that you can sign them during coffee hour.  Please sign each one with a message of your support and respect for the commitment made by our youth.

A GIFT OF LOVE—SECOND SATURDAY QUILTERS
Thank you to the quilting group for its gift of a quilt for one small patient at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital and her family. Last week, I met a beautiful and joyful little baby. four months old, Gwendolyn was recently diagnosed with a genetic disorder that will shorten her life to only a few years and that will mean that, although her mind is bright and alive, her body will not allow her to walk, talk or speak. I gave the quilt to Gwendolyn’s dad, he said that he was overwhelmed that so many “complete strangers” could love someone they had never met. But of course, (I told him) the Quilters know that his child is special and loved by God and wanted to make sure she knew it too. Thank you to the Second Saturday Quilters. In the coming days, I know that every stitch of that quilt will remind them that, even in her frailty and even as they struggle with the hopes that they had for their daughter, Gwendolyn is special and loved just as she is. Truly, a lesson in love.

—The Rev. Hailey McKeefry Delmas

Started by two Quaker groups—the American Friends Service Committee and the San Francisco Friends Meeting—the vigil has been joined by Buddhist and Episcopal Peace Fellowships. Some attendees are silent, praying or meditating. Others are motivated to speak.
