Rector Search Committee
Many thanks to all the parishioners who participated in the
application process for the Rector Search Committee. The Vestry could have
easily assembled two excellent committees from the number of applications we
received. We strived to put together a committee that represents a cross
section of Epiphany, and believe we have done that.
The Vestry is pleased to announce the members of the Rector Search Committee:
Kristin Anderson – Co-Chair
Charlotte Ziems – Co-Chair
Laura Bierwagen
John Buchanan
Kent Holubar
Dede Lehmkuhl
Mark Loveland
Connie Maysonave
Tamatha Rodwick
Gretchen Ross
H.D. Stevens
Greg Wilson
Thank you also to our Vestry members who willingly met every week for the past several weeks. The meetings were long. As a group, we left the meetings tired, but hopeful. While reviewing applications together, we were reminded of the many excellent people we have attending this church, and of the many reasons we love Epiphany and have come to call it our church home.
—Craig DeBrine, Sr. Warden and Liz Olson, Jr. Warden
GAIL’S
FIRST SUNDAY
Today is Gail Greenwell's first Sunday at St. Michael and All
Angels in Kansas.
To honor this special occasion, our Altar Guild has provided the flowers. The
following will be included in their bulletin:
Today's flowers are given with love by the Altar Guild of the Church of the Epiphany, Gail Greenwell's previous church in California. The Altar Guild also sends the following wish - that St. Michael's may be blessed by her leadership as we have been.
Prayer and Action for Columbia
We will be participating in the "Days of Prayer and
Action for Columbia," an activity to draw
attention to the plight of the people in Columbia
who have suffered through decades of civil war. Today in our service we will be
saying prayers on their behalf, and in the coffee hour we will be signing
letters. For more information about the problems in Columbia, see these websites: http://www.peaceincolombia.org/

We look forward to your interest and participation. Thanks !
Blood Drive
Sunday, May 4
11:00 am - 3:00 pm
Parish Hall
Give the gift of life. Epiphany will be hosting a blood drive in the Parish
Hall today from 11 am to 3 pm. Make a difference by giving a
pint of blood. You’ll help the Blood Centers of the Pacific save lives.
Plus, a free cholesterol test when you donate.
Some facts:
· A pint of blood, separated into components, can help up to three people.
· More than 4.5 million patients need blood transfusions each year in the U.S. and Canada.
· Only 37 percent of the U.S. population is eligible to donate blood—less than 10 percent do annually.
· The actual blood donation usually takes about 10 minutes. The entire process—from the time you sign in to the time you leave—takes about an hour.
Blood drives hosted by
companies, schools, places of worship and civic organizations supply half of
all blood donations across the United
States.

We appreciate your past support in giving the Gift of Life to our Northern California Patients. As you may be aware, BCP solely supports 41 Hospitals and over 500 pints a day is required for patients in need. Unfortunately, the summer months are most critical as our blood inventories drop below a two day supply. Your donation will most likely be transfused within weeks to a patient in need like these below who recently received life through a blood donation:
1 month old baby girl Heart surgery given 1 pint A+
14 year old girl Ovarian cancer given 9 pints A-
50 year old male Leukemia given 4 pints A+
45 year old female Cancer given 4 pints O+
61 year old female Leukemia given 2 pints +
55 year old male Liver failure given 10 pints B+
71 year old female Neurosurgery given 5 pints O+
47 year old male Liver transplant given 6 pints A-
1 month old baby girl Heart surgery given 2 pints O+
49 year old male Plasmapheresis given 2 pints O+
13 day old baby boy Heart Surgery given 2 pints A+
7 month girl Hear Surgery given 2 pints O-
52 year old female Neurosurgery given 6 pints O-
19 month old boy Heart surgery given 5 pints AB+
68 year old male Leukemia given 2 pints A-
65 year old male Liver transplant given 18 pints A+
4 day old baby boy Bowel perforation given 1 pint A+
Save twice the lives in fewer donations!

A
GIFT OF LOVE—SECOND SATURDAY QUILTERS
Thank you to the quilting group for its gift of a quilt for one small patient
at Lucille Packard Children’s Hospital and her family. Last week, I met a
beautiful and joyful little baby. four months old, Gwendolyn was recently
diagnosed with a genetic disorder that will shorten her life to only a few
years and that will mean that, although her mind is bright and alive, her body
will not allow her to walk, talk or speak. I gave the quilt to Gwendolyn’s
dad, he said that we was overwhelmed that so many “complete strangers”
could love someone they had never met. But of course, (I told him) the Quilters
know that his child is special and loved by God and wanted to make sure she
knew it too. Thank you to the Second Saturday Quilters. In the coming days, I
know that every stitch of that quilt will remind them that, even in her frailty
and even as they struggle with the hopes that they had for their daughter,
Gwendolyn is special and loved just as she is. Truly, a lesson in love.
