Sunday Polish Tish

A "Child Centered Revolution" in Polish Hasidism.
Piaseczner Rebbe Yahrzeit special.

November 3rd  3.00 PM

To mark the 81st Yahrzeit of the Holy Rebbe R. Kalonymus Kalmish Shapira of Piaseczna zt”l, we start to explore  the context of his unique educational philosophy.
Gabriella Licsko will begin with a very brief introduction to the variations of Polish Hasidic educational system of the 1920's and 1930's by and with general Polish educational context of his own time including some similarities and differences to the system of an other martyred Polish Jewish educator, Janus Korchak by Miriam Gonczarska-Shapira. This will be honored to have a discussion about the Rebbes innovative educational ideas and visions by Rabbi Micha Odenheimer, who was the first translator of the Rebbes "Chovot ha Talmidim" to English which published as the "Students obligation".
Please join us in discussion, let us know your toughts, share with us stories and how the Rebbes Torah and educational thoughts affect you!

Rabbi Micha Odenheimer is a rabbi, writer, translator, journalist, and social activist based in Jerusalem. Born in 1958 in Berkeley, California. He graduated from Yale University in 1980 and received rabbinic ordination from HaRav Moshe Feinstein in 1984. He was also a close student of Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, sparking his interest in Jewish mysticism and Hasidism.

Rabbi Odenheimer translated A Student’s Obligation: Advice from the Rebbe of the Warsaw Ghetto by Rabbi Kalonymus Kalman Shapira, bringing the Piaseczno Rebbe’s teachings to a broader audience. His journalistic work has taken him to crisis zones worldwide, including Ethiopia, Haiti, and Iraq, while in Israel, he has advocated for Ethiopian Jewish integration as the founder of the Israel Association for Ethiopian Jews.

In 2007, Rabbi Odenheimer founded Tevel b'Tzedek, a non-profit dedicated to addressing global poverty and environmental issues, connecting Israel and the Jewish people to these critical challenges. His work embodies a commitment to social justice and ethical leadership.
