This Thursday night March 12th we will be holding our irregular Chulent events.
9:30 PM ZOOM
Psychoanalysis:The Where’s Waldo of the Western Mind
A Love Letter to Cholent
Psychoanalysis is the Where’s Waldo of the Western mind — hiding in plain sight inside nearly every serious idea you’ve ever had about why people do what they do.
In this talk, Dr. Ali Feit wants to play the game with you: find Waldo across disciplines, trace how psychoanalytic ideas migrated into places their creators never imagined, and ask what was lost in the translation — because the part the culture absorbed is impressive, but the part that never escaped might be the most fun of all.
Alison Feit, Ph.D. is a psychoanalyst, teacher, editor, podcaster, and professional deep diver into the human heart. She teaches at several psychoanalytic institutes and hangs out with strange and wonderful minds in analytic circles focussed on the Arts, Trauma, and Sexual diversity.

Psychoanalysis is the Where’s Waldo of the Western mind — hiding in plain sight inside nearly every serious idea you’ve ever had about why people do what they do. It’s in your company’s conversation about “psychological safety,” which is Wilfred Bion repackaged for a corporate retreat without so much as a thank-you note. It’s in the “attachment style” on your dating profile, wedged between a photo of someone’s dog and a quote from The Office. It’s in how Bloom changed literary criticism, how the Frankfurt School explained authoritarianism, and how Freud’s own nephew figured out that if you call a cigarette a “torch of freedom” women will smoke it — which is essentially the founding moment of modern advertising and also one of the creepier things a nephew has ever done.

She’s co-edited books on big topics (from trauma to trans issues to traditional Judaism), writes about love and contact in complicated times, and hosts the *Ask Freudina* podcast. She is almost finished with the book she almost finished the last time she spoke at Cholent. Almost
You can find her in NYC, Atlanta, on Zoom… or hanging at Cholent with chronic mischief makers who are terrible influences.
