Levi Keller was expelled from OholeiTtorah in 1994, Lubavitcher yeshiva 1996 and again from Oholei Torah in 1999. Levi received his BA in history and anthropology from Brooklyn College in 2011. A BS in physics from Helsinki University 2016 and is currently working in Helsinki on a Master's in physics.

My name is Rachel Gordon and I live in Beit Shemesh, Israel.   I lost my mother to cancer 28 years ago when I was  teenager and more recently, my father who passed away after a debilitating battle with dementia.  The death of my father made me reassess my mother's death and I came to realize that Yahrzeit was a unique opportunity for me to address the loss.
While many may find comfort in particular practices, I became interested in the stories, experiences and rituals of those who had created and developed uniquely personal ways of remembering their loved one's.
I wish to publish a collection that will serve as a wellspring of ideas, inspiration and comfort to anyone who has suffered a loss and is grappling with observing a Yahrzeit.
If you have a written piece to share about a Yahrzeit commemoration or what Yahzreit means to you, I would be delighted to hear from you.  Essays should be between 750-1,500 words and can be submitted to me at rac...@berinson.net

My next Mourner's Corner is on Sunday, December 31st at 2PM. It will be my last Kaddish for my Dad after 11 months of mourning him. At the end of January we return to the cemetery to unveil the tombstone.

On the 31st, we will gather at 76 Greenwich Avenue in the pocket park in the West Village at West 12th Street and 7th Avenue. It is the park where the New York City AIDS Memorial was dedicated.

Spread the word to anyone you know especially those who have lost someone dear in their life in the past year or someone remembering an anniversary of a loved one. Please feel free to bring a poem or song, a photo, a musical instrument. Please RSVP. We will co-create the ritual together and say Kaddish. And then the day will flow into New Years Eve and we will enter 2018.

These Mourners Corners have truly been a circle of love and comfort for our open broken hearts.

I will be there whether rain, snow, freeze, or shine. Please feel free to bring a hot thermos and cups of coffee, tea, cider, hot chocolate to share. And we can warm up right nearby after...
