2014 CHSUL City Tournament

Hi, all.

You'll be receiving a formal tournament packet via email shortly (I have it at home and right now I'm at work).

But, I wanted to pass along some general details about the 2014 CHSUL City Tournament.

What: CHSUL City Tournament

When: Saturday, May 3 - Sunday, May 4 // 9am

Where: Fred Beekman Park on OSU's campus

Games will begin at 9am both days and each team can expect to play 3 games per day. Expect to wrap up around 4.

It's very important for the integrity of the tournament that all teams play all of their games. When one team forfeits or doesn't show up on Sunday, it makes a mess of the bracket and leaves teams without games to play, which is unfair to them. So, it's expected that all teams play their games; failure to do so may result in postseason bans next year. If you think this will be an issue for your team, please let me know now.

I'll have the specific tournament format for everyone soon, but it will consist of pool play on Saturday and bracket play on Sunday.

Originally, pool play was going to keep separate the Tier I and Tier II teams, with the top two teams from Tier II playing into the championship bracket. But with all the parody in the league this season, I'm still considering a few different options.

We will be having a cookout again on Saturday afternoon following our pool play games.

The top teams will earn bids to the state tournament the following weekend. Last year, we had 3 bids for states. I'm not sure how many bids Columbus is to receive for this year's state tournament as of yet. Once I know, I'll pass along the info. In year's past, we've had either 3 or 4 bids.

Be on the lookout for the tournament packet soon (today or tomorrow). It will have detailed info on waivers, parking, seeding, the cookout, game times, score reporting, etc., etc., etc.

Oh, and I forgot to mention:

Each team will receive their allotment of discs to pass out to their players on Saturday morning of the tournament. 

If you're registered on the CUDA website, you get a disc. For instance, Dublin currently has 21 players registered so they will receive 21 discs. Olentangy only has 8 players registered so they will only receive 8 discs.

Registration is still open and all players participating in the City Tournament must be registered. If you know you're team is missing registrations, get on your players to sign up.

Quick question:

Do we need to register separately for States? I feel like there was a deadline of April 25th to get our teams registered for States, which is this Friday.

Secondly, will Columbus be putting together a "girls" team for states? States is an open tournament. Some schools play mixed, others play only boys. And, there is a separate girls division for states. In the past we've put together a team, but it drew from all of the Columbus girls. Any ideas on this?

I'd like to organize a girls team for girls in Columbus. We would need to find a coach/chaperone for ​the team.

I'm an idiot. Sorry. The state tournament is May 10/11. Typically the girls tournament is just one day that weekend. Sorry for the mix-up.

I definitely am interested in putting together a girls team for states. Columbus can put together a team that could really do some damage. Jake Rathjens and I had spoken about getting it together and Cassie is interested too as well as perhaps other fever players? 

We need to make it happen.

States is basically 2 weekends away. If we're going to do this, we need to move quickly. Can we all find out how many girls are willing to play by Wednesday of this week?

If it is going to work, we will want to do a couple practices next week to get the girls playing a little together. Cassie, when would your availability be? Could we do a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday practice next week?

I'm thinking practice could just be scrimmaging a bit to get used to playing with each other. A 4:30 pm start would be nice so the suburbs driving into Columbus could avoid rush hour traffic. OSU will be out I school, right?

Getting it settled this week will allow for the girls to really try to get to know each other more at the tourney this weekend.

I'm available any of those days, but maybe next Tuesday and Thursday would be best? OSU will be done by then. Any particular practice location in mind? If we want to go somewhere on campus I can have our president put in a request for field space.
