Hi, all.

Sorry for the late notice but I need to change the location for tonight's meeting; there was a mix-up with Rooster's. The time is still set for 7:00pm.

The new meeting location is:
Marburn Academy
1860 Walden Drive,
Columbus 43229

Please pass the word around to folks you know are planning to attend.

Thanks, everyone!

Hello, everyone.

It's time to start planning the 2014 Ultimate season. I'd like to have a kick-off and organizational meeting on Monday, October 28th at 7:00p.

The tentative meeting location is the Roosters on Olentangy, same as last year. Their address:

3370 Olentangy River Rd
Columbus, Ohio 43202

I'm waiting to get confirmation on our reservation.

I'd like to have at least one representative (player, coach, parent) from each school attend this meeting. Please note that this meeting is also intended for schools considering the Columbus High School Ultimate League. So even if you're unsure whether or not your sure your school will participate in the 2014 season, I still encourage you to attend the meeting. Also, if you are interested in coaching but don't have a team, you should attend, too.

I'll send out a more complete agenda prior to the meeting, but we will cover the following items:
  • Season Timeline and Important Dates
  • League format changes for 2014
  • Registration Process
  • Becoming a Club Sport
Please RSVP by Friday, October 25th. Just send me an e.mail letting me know that you'll be attending along with which school you're a part of.

Thanks, all!

Mark,

In case I am unable to attend the meeting I was going to discuss the possibility of adjusting the season a bit.  The season starts in the winter.  Playing and practicing outside during the winter is not conducive to ultimate.  The wind and cold cause many practices and games to be cancelled/rescheduled - plus it is not fun for the players.  Some schools do not have access to their school's gym for practice therefore they lose out on getting in enough practices before the season starts.  Trying to do drills in strong wind when it is freezing does not accomplish much.  Even high school football doesn't play in the winter.

I know you mentioned to me last year the issue is caused by the dates of the Ohio High School playoffs which are in early May.  I have two separate proposals to address the Ohio playoff issue.
  1. Extend the season through most of May, but do not have any games scheduled around the weekend of the Ohio tournament.
  2. As a standard, schedule two games a week and maybe on occasion have three games a week.  This allows you to delay the start of the season yet still get in all of the games.  Due to the number of cancellations/rescheduling the last couple years this ended up being our schedule for many of the weeks.

Either option will improve the situation, but I think option 1 is much better since it pushes the season into warmer weather which increases the odds of less cancellations/rescheduling as well as a better playing experience in the warmer weather.

I will be attending a funeral service in Gallipolis, Ohio (on the Ohio River) in the afternoon.  I am not sure I will be back in time for the meeting.

I appreciate all the work you do given the low pay for your position (volunteer with no pay - ha).
