3. work on TEAM prewrite for mini-symposium

Friday -
due - december mini-symposium pre-write (AKA Research Plan for SEF)
1. review for Monday's quiz
2. add to formula notebook

++++++++++++++++++++++++

Some hints/reminders to complete the CEI chairs prewrite and the mini-
symposium prewrite.

1. Everything on the first page of the CEI rubric is exactly what is
required on the parts A,B,C of the SEF Research Plan, just stated in
more complete and different format.
2. for the chairs CEI, you ARE NOT required to do part "D" of the
Research Plan
2a. for the chairs CEI, note that your MV is shoe slipperyness as self-
reported by the subjects (you) and your RV is time to complete the
course. To participate as a subject you are required to bring
slippery socks or shoes, and non-slippery shoes or to go barefoot.
Use this last to operationally define your MV and RV. Your "control"
will be my times on the course. Each person will need to complete
three trials for each of the two test conditions - 6 trials total - so
we will need to be efficient in our testing on Thursday - work this
requirement into your procedure. On Tuesday we will choose someone's
procedure to implement (person chosen earns EC) if one is good enough
- otherwise i will write the one we will implement.
3. for the mini-symposium prewrite you ARE required to do part "D" of
the Research Plan - you do this by merely combining all of your team
members' English annotated bibliography assignments.
4. IF your team is planning to also do SEF, then each sub-group will
need to complete this assignment as well, by October 25. And complete
the associated paperwork (very easy to do once your research plan is
complete). More on this next friday.

FYI - On Monday I will be sitting outside a doctor's office most of
the time (beginning about 9:15) - twiddling my thumbs waiting for
results of my Mom's pre-surgery testing - so after checking to make
sure that another student cannot answer your question, DO post replies
to this Post - I will monitor and reply when i can. Between 7:30am
and 9:15am I will be on the road traveling to the doctor's office - so
call during class only if really necessary - I do have hands-free,
legal operating ability.

modification to the chairs CEI - we will use the MV of: "amount of
slipperyness of shoes" based upon the operational definition of:
we will measure the slipperyness of the shoe by placing it on a smooth
ramp of painted particlebaord, lift the ramp until the shoe begins
sliding, then measure the ramp angle at when the shoe just starts
sliding, record that ramp angle as our measure of shoe slipperyness.

this measure allows us to produce a scatterplot, more like what is
required for your december project.
