A discussion on the next round of Khmer Rouge trials

8pm Thursday, September 1, 2011
(Please see pricing and reservation procedure below)

After three decades, more than $100 million and allegations of
interference by Cambodia's government, trials have begun against the
four senior-most members of the Khmer Rouge regime responsible for the
deaths of more than 1.7 million people. The defendants, all over the
age of 79, present a much more complicated case for prosecutors than
the eight-month trial that resulted in the conviction of Kaing Guek
Eav, known as Duch, who oversaw Tuol Sleng prison.

Nuon Chea, Khieu Samphan, Ieng Sary and Ieng Thirith will all face
justice at the Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia. The
trials come amid concerns among human rights groups over a lack of
transparency when co-investigating judges prematurely ended
investigations into other regime leaders.

To explain what lies ahead in these historic cases that will shed
light on Cambodia's darkest period, we are pleased to welcome:

Agnieszka Klonowiecka-Milart, Supreme Court Chamber Judge
Lars Olsen, Legal Communications Officer, ECCC
Neth Pheaktra, Cambodian press officer, ECCC
Anne Heindel, a legal advisor for the Documentation Centre of
Cambodia
