Also, I've got the Windows 8 N-trig drivers and I've got partial function. for some reason Windows is seeing it as a single touch digitizer. I'm also showing a "dell waterstone touchpad, which does not exist.
I can't uninstall the "Waterstone touchpad". It appears that Windows is assigning that device ID to my laptop (the touchpad icon shows all the computer components when right-clicked. I think windows just misidentifies the studio laptop.
I do have the current Windows 8 drivers for the N trig touchpad (downloaded from n-trig website). It's just identifying in Windows as a single touch - pen interface rather than having the dual touch interface.
4. Please tap the Cross Hair(+) with your finger each time it appears on the screen to Calibrate the Touch Screen
5. Follow the onscreen instruction and save the Calibration Data to complete Inspiron One Touch Screen calibration
The Waterstone touchpad cannot be uninstalled. Windows is assigning that identification to the computer. The touchpad does not show up in device manager as a separate component, and I cannot uninstall it there either. The yellow warning on the touchpad is actually for the multimedia controller mentioned previously.
Thank you for your quick response. Multimedia controller can be of the TV tuner card that was shipped with your computer. You can install the driver for the same from the link: and see if this fixes the issue.
The touchscreen is not changed. I have the windows 8 drivers from Ntrig installed and there are no warnings for the drivers. The calibration program will not run. It starts and gives the countdown where it warns not to touch the screen. At the point where the actual calibration should start, it just exits. Perhaps that's related to the system thinking it has a single touch-pen input digitizer?
I can't uninstall the waterstone touchpad (that option is not available for that device on printers and devices, and it does not show up in programs and features. This device is not being seen by the system as a peripheral that can be removed, but as the main system.
Thanks, Speedstep, but I've already got all those driver installed and working (my Ntrig drivers are the Windows 8-64 drivers from Ntrig). I've gotten to the point that there's no longer any issue showing up in device manager. I'm wondering if it's a firmware issue with the Ntrig, although from what I understand that should prevent the digitizer working at all.
I have the same issues upgrading my Studio 1749 to Windows 8. I have lost the touchpad control panel. It only shows up as a mouse. I have tried everything in this forum and tried every driver Dell offers but no luck. Is it possible the factory touchpad is not Win8 compatible?
