Our Lexi was just recently diagnosed with copper storage disease.  Does anyone else use distilled water?

This was recommended by our vet as one of the many items on the treatment plan if we had any trace of copper in our tap water.   While the cost of the distilled water is a drop in the bucket compared to the other items (d-pen, copper free diet, antioxidants, milk thistle, vitamin E), I hate the lugging of the jugs from the store and the environmental impact as well.  I go through a lot of water because we fill our other dog's water bowl with distilled as well, since they will take each others.

Just wondering if it will make that big of a difference, given the other treatment modalities in place.  I did test our tap water using an aquarium copper test kit and the result if very slightly positive for copper.

Any thoughts?

We use a Brita Pitcher. How much copper it removes, I am not sure, but they do list copper as one of the items the pitchers filter out. I don't know how much it actually helps, but it was a small thing we could change that might help.
