Hi everyone! I just found this forum a couple of days ago and it has been very helpful. My 2 year old lab boxer mix was just diagnosed with copper storage disease last week. We found out her liver enzymes were elevated just from routine blood work. Thankfully we caught this disease before it progressed any further than just elevated enzymes. She did stop eating her dog food within the last couple of weeks before we knew what exactly was going on so I've been cooking her meals and mixing with dog food. We are waiting for her penicillamine so we can start her treatment as well as switching her food to Hill's l/d.
I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on homemade treat recipes that would be safe for her to eat or suggestions of other treats that have been approved by your vets. She loves milk bones and that was the one thing she did not lose her appetite for! I would hate to not be able to give her anything that isn't tasty for her. The vet told me to try fruits and veggies that are safe for dogs. We tried carrots, celery, bananas, and apples so far and she only likes the apples. I would like to be able to make a large amount of cookies that will last and I can store. I hate to not have anything on hand when I need a quick little treat for her. Any suggestions are much appreciated!
