i bought logic 8 as the full version but with a student discount (bought it online on the apple store) not the academic version. you can't upgrade the academic version therefore lose out on the lower upgrade prices of future releases.
The second thing to say is that students and enthusiasts, generally speaking, don't have financial resources of say, Lockheed Martin. (citation needed) So either we don't give them a discount, to keep things totally fair, and they can no longer afford to buy Saleae gear, or, we give them a suitably large discount. Assuming that our product is better than alternatives, I would prefer if students and enthusiasts use it - even if we don't make very much on each sale.
Startups -- and here I do not mean startups brimming with VC cash -- are also not in the position of having the financial resources of Lockheed Martin, and, having been there, we'd like to help them get off the ground so to speak, so it seems reasonable to help at least in this small way.
If you're already at University, or have been offered your place, then you should ensure that you make use of Apple's student discount. You can save hundreds on a MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iMac, iMac Pro or Mac mini at Apple's UK Education Store, US Education Store, CA Eductation Store or AU Education Store.
In the UK, you sign up through the UNiDAYS website, a site dedicated to student discounts, where you must prove your eligibility by giving the details of the Education facility you are attending. Other countries have dedicated Education Stores with all of the products available at the reduced prices.
The Making Music with Logic Pro X course at School of Synthesis not only concisely demystifies the complexities of Logic Pro, but does it in a way that is conducive to both novice and seasoned producers / musicians alike. By the end of week six I had learnt and retained an incredible amount of information and techniques that I know I never would have discovered on my own. I honestly believe had it not been for the School of Synthesis, I would be nowhere near as competent in Logic Pro and/or achieving the positive results I am today.
I have been involved in the music industry for 4 decades as a performer, composer and music teacher. As a consequence of the Logic Pro X course at School of Synthesis, I now have a very well-rounded understanding of how to use Logic Pro efficiently and effectively. Whilst the tutor had a clear learning agenda for each lesson, he also seamlessly accommodated the individual needs of each student along the way, taking into account different levels of experience, as well as different learning needs associated with disparate musical genres. Truly well done SOS!
I have been an electronic music DJ for 7 years and have always wanted to try my hand at music production. Having tried on my own, I was having difficulty finding where to start and decided to take a course at SOS. The Making Music with Logic Pro X course was a great introduction to the features of Logic Pro and what the software is capable of. The instructor was very easy to understand and capable of accommodating my learning needs. I am now a confident user of Logic Pro and able to get my music ideas out of my head and into sound. Since finishing the class I have also taken the Sound Design course and have signed up for the Mixing and Mastering course.
Learn how to make music using Logic Pro X. Our beginners course will teach you how to record instruments and vocals, write notes, edit audio and mix and master your tracks in our course that covers the fundamentals of Logic Pro X in a simple and structured way. In 6 weeks you will be writing and producing your own music with confidence.
School of Synthesis Making Music with Logic Pro course designer Davide Carbone is officially recognised by Apple as an expert in the use of Logic Pro X and is only one of two Apple-certified Logic Pro professionals in the country.
The course is suitable for beginners including those who have no prior experience with music-making software. This course assumes no experience of Logic Pro X and covers students producing a track from start to finish using Logic Pro X.
