Hello everyone,

I'm a new user of Chromevox on a Pixelbook Go and there are a couple questions that Google can't seem to yield any answers.

First of all, is there a way to lower the volume/eliminate earcons altogether? I'm really enjoying Chromevox except for the earcons which are driving me absolutely insane with how loud they are. I checked everywhere I could in settings and no luck.

Second, is there a way to add a user profile to a Chromebook without having to resort to a completely different email address? I speak 3 different languages and so far, all I've read indicates that a new email has to be used for a new user, so just want to make sure this is correct and I'm not missing something. TO go along with that, the voice that I require for Vietnamese called something like "Android TTS VN" with a long string of numbers, is available when I look under voices in the Chromevox settings when the main language is set to English. However, if I change the system language to Vietnamese, it switches to eSpeak which is pretty much unintelligible and the voice that is available before is no longer in the list of voices. I would love to be able to use my Chromebook in Vietnamese as well, but eSpeak is not a viable option for tex to speech.

Any thoughts on these issues would be greatly appreciated! :)

Hello,

To answer your first question, you can toggle earcons on and off, you can use search+a+e.

To answer your second question, If you use search+o+s, you can get to the list of text-to-speech options. Is this how you are going about changing languages? If so, are you saying that once you switch language to Vietnamese, Google TTS voices are not showing up in the list of possible voices? Or is there a different way you're going about changing languages?

Thanks.

if you are talking about google tts its already built in as its the standard android tts for those using stock android. if you are talking about svox piko that tts is discontinued as of android lollipop. this applies to neverware cloudready too

Thanks for the earcons keystroke; I do wish a volume slider could be installed for earcons because I actually do like having them on once in a while.

How I am setting up my language preferences is I have a separate user (different email address) added to the Pixelbook and I switch the system language to Vietnamese. When I access Chromevox speech settings on this user account with Vietnamese as the system language, the many TTS voices that were available when the system language is English are no longer there. Basically, it went from about 360 voices when system language is English to around 60 voices when system language is Vietnamese.
