We have an online data dashboard for assessments.  Teachers can view assessment data and also download the data as a CSV file to use it is a spreadsheet.  Today we tried it with a teacher using a Chromebook.  The file downloaded correctly, but it gave an error message that the .csv file type is not supported.  I checked on Google the "Supported file types and external devices" page ( http://support.google.com/chromeos/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=183093 ) and indeed, .csv is not listed.

I COULD however go into an Apps spreadsheet and import the .csv file and it comes in perfectly.  Does anyone know of a way to avoid this extra step?  Can I just direct all .csv files on my chromebooks to get imported to the Apps SS?

Thanks,

Mike

Hey Mike.
I don't think there is a native client for .csv files like you reported.  However, as at least one work around you could try would be to download the file and then simply drag the file into the Google Drive folder in the Files on the Chromebook itself.  It should automatically sync into the cloud and then you can open from there in Google Sheets.  I think there is an app out there that will read csv files soon if not already, but can't remember the name right off the top of my head.
