I have been using chromebooks in my classroom for about a year.  Recently, I decide to have my students do a project in wevideo and have run into some connection issues.  I am not sure if this is an internet issue or if wevideo only allows for so many users on a once.  Has anyone used this app and had success or troubles?

Kristin, we have had mixed results with this app.  It initially worked great in a 4th grade class (on Chromebooks), then we had major connection issues the same week in the middle school, then it was hit or miss in other classes on a variety of devices.  The biggest problem we had was the students would record a video and it would get hung up
"connecting to servers."  WeVideo support is fantastic - I suggest reaching out to them right away as they very motivated to get the bugs worked out

Todd- Thanks for the feedback.  Today we had great success, but I will reach out to WeVideo support.  Thanks again, Kristin

Hey Kristin,
I have used WeVideo as well in my class, but it is a little smaller.  I found that it worked much better on a wired connection than when using it on Chromebooks.  We had some issues with crashing plugins as well. We also found that speed and connection issues varied day to day.  The support team is very good, if you post in their support area.  If you email them, they don't always get back to you.  However, with a little patience and perseverance the projects turned out great and WeVideo is the best solution that I have found for video editing on Chromebooks or without purchasing really expensive software.  We are going to use it on a much larger scale next year to do weekly school news broadcasts so hopefully some of the bugs are worked out.  Best of luck!

WeVideo is known for having intermittent connectivity issues. We have issues with video running slowly (skipping frames) sometimes, and other times it runs just fine. It will often lag when creating a project, uploading assets, or processing video. Sometimes it will give a server error message even though it has actually accomplished the task you ask it to do. Case in point: I accidentally created about 12 versions of the same "new" project because I kept getting 503 error messages.

Keep in mind we are talking about editing video completely online in the cloud, something you needed powerful hardware and software to do only a few years ago. This technology is in its "beta" stage, IMO, so I'm pretty patient with it, allowing plenty of extra time for technical difficulties.

I would still recommend it as a fantastic app, especially with its Google Drive integration.

We have not had many issues at our school but have not done many projects with it yet.  I am really hoping Google realizes the potential for a simple video and audio editing app and creates an all in one app.  Maybe someone at Google will do that on their flex time!

We loved using Audacity for Windows and used Windows Movie Maker or PhotoStory (because they were free) depending upon the grade level. To date we haven't found a great replacement for either yet.
