We are getting a number of Chromebooks into our building. The math teachers are looking for ideas on how the Chromebooks are being used in math classes.

We are using Chromebooks as the delivery platform for ST Math http://www.mindresearch.net/cont/programs/prog_iis.php .  It's just a pilot at this point, but after about 3 weeks it's a success so far.

I am working with a teacher that is using the NCTM Illuminations site for Math. It has some nice online flash Math games as well as lessons for teachers. Might be worth looking at:

I haven't played with it much but there is an app called Graphing Calculator by desmos that our math specialist has been using for senior high

HI Mary,

A few of our teachers are experiencing great results with the following two sites.

Great suggestions so far.  Be sure to check out Geogebra. There is an app and website both that work great!

I think for Math teaching (science, chemistry as well), it is important to use a document system which is suited to and easy to use like Latex. Most end up trying to use Microsoft Word or Google Docs which are not designed for use in math. Try out the Chrome App Store app "ShareLatex". Latex is a powerful mathematical, scientific, and technical document which is natural, logical and straightforward for someone who is thinking in terms of math. It is very powerful, but you only need to use what you need, so it is also very simple.

It is great for teachers preparing reference texts, homework assignments, exam papers etc. and students returning homework or coursework (as an alternative to handwritten work) and theses etc.

We just got our Chromebooks just over a week ago. I'm using them for Khan Academy, IXL math, Sumdog, Discovery Ed, Learn 360 -- and anything else that can help my kids better understand math.

I found this group while doing research myself for the same reasons.  Here's what I have so far.

Online labs - https://teacher.desmos.com/
Allows teachers to create a class for students to join. Teacher can then see students' progress in real time as they work through the labs.  I was thinking about the "Water Line" and "Penny Circle" for graphing and collecting data.

Set up a classroom with missions - https://www.khanacademy.org/
More of an "at home" thing but I could set up each class then watch their progress as they work through the missions.  Similar to MobyMax.

Research and analyze graphs - http://www.wolframalpha.com/
Students could look up a number of things and compare.  One example would be to compare name popularity http://www.wolframalpha.com/input/?i=Stephan+vs+Stephen

Something with google docs or google classroom
Maybe reflections or a math research paper. This is kind of a default one for chromebooks but doesn't seem very likely in a math class.

Collect and create graphs in google sheets
Here's something a little more math :)

Play math games against other people - http://www.arcademics.com/games/
These actually are math games instead of pretend ones. :)

Lots of different options there but not really a full lesson
