Greetings,
Would you be willing to add word prediction to Chrome or Google docs?  This would be a huge asset to thousands of students with disabilities.

We certainly appreciate the addition of Voice Note into Google Docs.
Currently we are having difficulty finding an affordable and manageable word prediction option for Chromebooks.  This is leading to the purchase of more iPads and laptops that have word prediction built-in.

Thank you kindly for your consideration and keep up the good work!

Hi Pete,

Thanks for the note. We actually do have autocorrection and next word prediction built into the physical keyboard settings in Chromebooks! To enable this, navigate to Settings > Keyboard Settings then click on Change language and input settings. Then under the keyboard you have selected, press the Configure button.

Here is where you can set up autocorrection. Change the setting to "aggressive".

From there, as you type, if the computer has a suggestion for how to complete the word, an underline and little arrow will appear. You can use the down arrow to look through the various options, and press enter or space to select it.

You can also check the box for next word prediction and autocapitalization on this settings page.

I'd be very interested to hear your feedback!

Thanks!
Laura

Hi Laura,
I fournd a Chromebook to test it out, but I didn't have a lot of luck.  It doesn't seem to work in google docs, or in other windows.  The only time I saw a word prediction option was after I left the cursor blinking for 3-4 seconds.  The AT team tested and had the same results.

Have you tried it / had success with it?

thanks,

Pete

Hi Pete,

I do know that there are some current incompatibility issues with docs, unfortunately. Let me consult with the team who worked on this feature and see what we can do here.

Out of curiosity, have you tried using Read & Write within docs?

Thanks Laura, that's great.
And to answer your question, yes indeed.  It's a great tool.  I have been lobbying my district to get a license.

If we can get this to work it would be a huge boon.  I am in process of purchasing an updated chromebook and will continue testing on it.
Is there anything I need to do to add it to your beta/test project?
