A Spanish-speaking and visually-impaired OP has posted in Chrome - Foro de Ayuda asking for assistance since [Apple's] Voice Over quit working on his Mac-XOS:

Hello. I am visually impaired and to read long articles i use screen readers. At my work I have Windows and use NDVA [NonVisual Desktop Access (NVDA) - a GNU GPL project  http://www.nvaccess.org/about/nvda-features/] with no problems, but on my laptop, a Macbook Pro, the [Apple product] Voice Over does not work in Chrome. It used to work, but in the latest updates it quit working. Does anyone know and can tell me why or what I can do?    I'm even thinking of moving to Firefox ... Thanks and greetings!

Hola. Gracias y saludos!

I am puzzled by how to advise the OP to proceed.  My fellow Chrome - Foro de Ayuda volunteer (Adrià) suggested the OP try ChromeVox extension for XOS so i did suggest that.  (But i do not have any Apple products so i cannot test out ChromeVox on XOS.)   And i also asked the OP to clarify what version of Chrome and XOS he is using.  (The OPs original post indicated Chrome Stable Version 44.)  And of course, if it is the best advice, the OP can always go to Apple to explain that [Apple's] Voice Over has quit working on Chrome running in XOS.  (I did not yet tell the OP to contact Apple for assistance.)

Any guidance you could provide would be welcome !

thankyou !

Hi JW,

Thanks so much for reaching out. Did you receive any information about what version of OSX the OP is running?

Hi Laura-

Thanks for your help !

re: Did you receive any information about what version of OSX the OP is running?

No - not yet.  I did post a second time to specifically request re-verification of the Version of Chrome and the Version of Mac XOS also.  But the OP has not yet posted back

I will try to monitor that thread and post back here as soon as we receive that info.

Sadly, OPs often do not return to post a second time.

my second post to the OP:
Hello again Alejandro !

Could you tell us the Version of  XOS (the operating system on your Mac)?  And also - could you confirm that you are using Chrome 44 stable version ?   chrome: // version

And also - you have tested out the ChromeVox extension for Mac?

Good luck!

Hi Laura,

Alejandro did post again earlier today.  He said his version of XOS is "the latest version" and that indeed he is running Chrome Stable 44.

Here is (my translation of) his post and my (translated) response (ref below)

Hello Jay,

My version of XOS is the latest version and yes (i confirm that) my version of Chrome is Stable 44.

I have not tried ChromeVox yet but i believe that it is best to have only one screen reader to use.   (Imagine the complications for someone who is almost totally blind and is using one screen reader for work and then later having to close that screen reader and open up a different one again each time for connecting to the internet.  That just doesn't make sense.

Thanks for your assistance.  Do you really know how to send a suggestion directly to Google?  Did you actually do that ?

 ¡ Saludos !

My (translated) response:

¡ Hello again, Alejandro !

Thank you for that additional information.    I agree with you that it is far simpler to be able to use a single screen-reader product for all cases rather than use multiple different software products.  But then again, maybe ChromeVox is the best product since right now you are using two different products, correct?  You are using NDVA at work (on WindowsOS) and Voice Over at home (on XOS), correct ?   However, ChromeVOX works on WindowsOS, XOS and ChromeOS - for all cases ChromeVox simply works.

And - yes - we volunteers do have a method to communicate with Google employees - for example - for issues with accessibility .   Google believes that the ability to use the internet is very important.  But for users with accessibility issues it is even more important to Google.  So for that reason Google maintains an Accessibility issues Forum where accessibility issues can be discussed.  Various experts from Google monitor that forum (experts of accessibility, software experts, etc.)

But we - the volunteers - do not have direct communications with the employees of Google like we do in other forums.  In other forums we volunteers use Google Hangouts for meetings with Google employees.  Using Google Hangouts we can discuss the business of supporting the users of the world that use Google products.

Again, thankyou for explaining the version of XOS and of Chrome that you are using;  Google needs that information in order to best determine what might be going wrong.

 ¡ Saludos !
