I  got the email below this morning. Am not sure i shared this with you but the govt plans to put a 200km long open chanel across Majete and Lengwe national parks. It will be disastrous for the wildlife and agriculture. Not to say what the diversion of the shire will do to our famous 'inland port'. the intake is also above the kapichira escom plan... which obviously means less water for power generation... and we think our electricity  problems are bad now... wait till this channel is constructed!!

While the Government has yet to take the nation into its confidence over its true plans for the Lower Shire, according to a brief news item that I (partially) heard on the radio this morning, representatives of the International Finance Corporation will be visiting the area TODAY to be briefed on Government’s plans.

 

Maximum pressure must be exerted on Government to have a proper dialogue with the nation and time is running out!
