Dear all

Climate Change News remains for me the most interesting stuff to read: How about this? Hundreds of British householders can for the first time cook and keep warm with gas that began its long route to their stoves in their bathrooms.

From Tuesday, enough biomethane gas to supply up to 200 homes will be pumped from Didcot sewage works in Oxfordshire into the grid in the first of several human gas recycling projects which could meet 15 percent Britain's domestic needs by 2020, according to National Grid.
"The gas that we are transporting from Didcot doesn't arrive from the North Sea or abroad, but instead comes from the very homes we are delivering the gas to," John Morea, Chief Executive of Scotia Gas Networks, said in a statement ahead of a barbecue on Tuesday morning where guests will tuck into biogas bacon butties.
"That's got to be recycling at its very best."

1.Power of the wind to be harnessed
07 October 2010 - 09:31
By Hannah Keal
Green energy in South Africa's been given a boost. The third largest wind turbine manufacturer in the world has announced it is starting up operations here.

Silas Zimu - the newly appointed CEO of Suzlon South Africa - says wind energy will improve the country's energy security and will create jobs.

Zimu believes this will go a long way to dealing with the country's energy woes.

"The South African Wind Association is projecting that South Africa has got the capacity of 25% of its total demand that wind can contribute. So that has to be achieved by 2025 [and] we are projecting that at least 2 000 megawatts should be produced from wind every year."

Business leaders from major global corporations have committed to reduce their carbon dioxide emissions across a wide range of sectors, including energy, communications, building and construction. The announcement was made at the conclusion of the UN-supported Business for the Environment (B4E) Summit, held in Mexico City from 4 to 5 October, ahead of the UN Climate Conference in Cancun next month.

3. Invitation to ringing of the barn swallows:
Hi

Please circulate the following for the Lake Victoria Conservancy. The Barn
Swallow season really only starts in the last week of October. Visitors are
welcome to the view site any time onwards from then. Our Return of the
Swallows event is on Sunday 7 November and everyone is welcome. Similarly we
are again holding our popular swallow ringing experiences every month. These
are also open to the public but you need to book. For all details, the
invitation for the 7 November and bookings please see our new website
www.barnswallow.co.za. Please note we do ask for a small donation of R10 to
help us to maintain the viewsite for your use. We look foward to seeing you
all again.
Regards
Hilary.
The Lake Victoria Conservancy is once again holding its popular monthly barn swallow ringing demonstrations for the public. The ringing is of particular importance this season with the King Shaka International Airport now in operation. The ringing provides ideal photographic opportunities.

Booking is essential as we limit groups to 25 people per session. Each session includes a talk at the Mt Moreland Village Green Gazebo by trained ringer Andrew Pickle; netting in the reed-bed and then ringing back at the Gazebo. Sessions run from 4.30 to approximately 8 pm. Book by phoning Andrew on 082 338 3302 or by email and...@barnswallow.co.za  For directions see www.barnswallow.co.za

The cost is R60 with an option R20 for a certificate showing the ring number of one of the ringed swallows from the evenings catch. In the event of the swallow being recaptured in the Northern Hemisphere the person with that number will be contacted.

Yugesh will recall the fun we had last year waiting for the arrival of the barn swallows... so we'll be seeing you on the 7th November, Hilary....
I've attached an idea for re-using old cars...just to prove to Ash that my emails are not boring... (lol)
