Subject: Call for Papers - ‘Singing. Compendium of a Cultural and Religious Practice’
To: <off...@thehymnsociety.org>

Dear colleagues from the English-speaking world,

I am writing to you today to ask you to contribute to a compendium on singing, which is being edited by Simon Kannenberg, Lisa Ketges, Birger Petersen, Tamara Schmidt and myself as part of the series ‘Kirchenmusikwissenschaft. Pädagogische und kulturwissenschaftliche Studien’ (Church Musicology: Pedagogical and Cultural Studies - https://link.springer.com/series/60114) published by J.B.Metzler.

The interdisciplinary and bilingual (German/English) compendium, with the working title ‘Singing. Compendium of a Cultural and Religious Practice’ aims to present singing primarily in contributions from musicology and theology, but also from other related sciences. Methodologically experimental as well as project- and practice-related contributions and co-authorship are welcome. The primary target audience for the compendium is church musicians and theologians, as well as (music/religion) educators and mediators. The expected length is between 20,000 and 30,000 characters (including spaces) per contribution. The texts should be submitted by 30 June 2026. Please let us know by 31 October 2025 whether you will be participating and, if so, provide a working title for your contribution. Furthermore, we would be grateful if you could forward this request to interested authors. I am happy to provide further information should you have any questions.

I look forward to hearing from you and send kind regards from Bayreuth.

Yours sincerely,

Timm Siering
