Do you happen to know where I can get plans for squared rudder/elevator and spades? Or anyone who has a set? I’ll probably check with Benny Davis.
Sent from my iPhoneThe rudder is essential as a life-saver.A stock eagle rudder can take some time to stop an inverted or accelerated spin. This is an easy invention you can do anytime when you have the metal in hand. You will also not need to destroy the old rudder and can put it back on quickly.Built several in an afternoon with a good Tig welder helping.

Awesome! Thanks for the info! Right now we have added weight to slave strut for balancing, but will be planning on shovels in near future. Would also like to do square rudder this winter.

I remember these, you are going to like them.Did not see the shovel set up with this photo, will you have them on the top and bottom, just the bottom, or did they heavily counterweight the tips of these? They may have also had you add weight to the slave strut between.
In any case we bent cracked or broke most of the bell crank types we have from Aviat many times and kept doing mods and reinforcements until that stopped. Also bent the short control rods from the bell crank to the ailerons and shovel connection.Ours were much larger on the BlackEagle series and we discovered that a top and bottom shovel was needed to off load the whole system. As soon as we discovered this we started removing lots and lots of added counterbalance weights. Also learned the top stroking movement (up) of any aileron was the part doing the work and where the greatest force was coming from.Large yaws also resulted in us dramatically increasing the area and boost on the rudder to offset the yaw.You would need a computer controlled system to roll straight with full aileron, so we had to back off just a tad from full.We also had a more square tailing edge on ours. These look great and very practical. The stock bell crank produced a different ratio of up / down. This ratio might be OK, but eventually we had symmetric 30-up 30-down.

Hey, Kurt!
Here’s a photo of the aileron/wingtip as we’ve done it.

Can you post some photos of them? I remember what they were
originally but may have changed.
Do they have the squared tips with the straight tip edge or are they rounded?
Do they come with spade attachments top and bottom or just bottom?
