My Christen wobble pump seems to be failing after 20 plus years. The fuel shutoff valve still works ok but it doesn't pump hardly any fuel when handle is pumped. Does anyone know who, if anybody, is servicing these pumps? If available, names, address and/or phone number would be appreciated.

Alternately, if failure is due to worn out internal  "O" ring (or something simple) perhaps I can repair myself but am reluctant to open the thing up for fear of making unit unusable as I still need shut off valve function. Does anybody have any experience/comments/suggestions regarding home repair of the pump, parts availability, etc..

I am also now considering adding  an electric pump either in series with the Christen pump (thus keeping the on off function of the Christen pump) or replacing the Christen pump entirely. I have taken a look at pump offering by Airflow Performance as an "add on"  pump and I have been told that a Weldon high pressure electric pump ( listed in Aircraft Spruce) can be viable solution. Any thoughts/comments/suggestions regarding above approaches or any other approaches also would be appreciated. I would like to come up with solution while I have airplane opened up for annual condition inspection.

Thanks

Hi John

Don Rivera sell a pretty nice electric fuel pump that is perfect for priming and emergency.
You'll need to develop your own sump drain, but that is easy too, if you look at summit racing below.
I found it easy to install the filter in the same location and add a sump drain pet cock to the filter assembly.
There might be a weight savings, and you could consider just having the fuel valve where you can reach it.
The rest could be in front of or on the firewall.

John,

I just recently had my Eagle Christen 844 wobble pump completely rebuilt by Gary Conterno.  You wouldn't believe the number of o-rings in that pump.  He sent me back a little bag of the old worn out o-rings and there must have been 20 or so in the bag.  Big ones...Small ones...and even some "straight" ones (which could have been broken o-rings...I dunno'.

Anyway, contact Gary Conterno at:

BTW, Gary Conterno is the guy that built the pumps originally for Frank Christensen back in the day when they were building Eagles.  If anybody knows how to do it, Gary does.  He had mine back to me in a couple of days. Works great now!

Cheers,

Ron
