Once upon a time in another life, I spent a considerable amount of
time in "the Bay Area" as it's called around here. I usually had to
be up early in the morning in San Jose, which meant I was often
looking for music in the evenings. :-) I was fortunate to stumble
upon the Espresso Garden Cafe, Don Quixote's in Felton and the
assorted house concerts that seemed to circle both of those places.
Anyway, I heard the Waybacks wayback then and also Houston Jones with
some of the Waybacks past and present. There seemed this incredible
music scene up there. And then my buddy turned me on to the
Strawberry Music Festival ("Strawberry") and of course, viola, I see
many of the same folks at this festival among the pines in Yosemite.
Well, it's a pleasure to now be sharing the stage with Houston Jones
later this month at the wonderful stage at Old Time Music. Who is
Houston Jones? Keep reading.
If you like seeing father and son play music together (and who
doesn't, really?) - don't miss this show. Joe Pomianek (mostly plays
guitar and sings in Plow) and his father Glenn "Houston" will surely
play at least one tune together. You've seen 'em on YouTube, now see
'em in person!!
I hope you'll make plans with your honey, or ditch him (whatever it
takes) - and come on down to Old Time Music - the listening room in
the back is incredible.

Two great bands! One night of great music!
Houston Jones is a Bay Area based high octane Americana quintet.
Formed in 2001, the band performs a strong original repertoire that
ranges from bluegrass and folk to blues and gospel. - http://houstonjones.com
Houston Jones has been a hit at every festival they’ve played,
including Strawberry, Telluride, Sisters, American River, and at the
MillPond Festival where they shared sets with the great Joe Craven.
They were voted both “best new discovery” and “best vocalist” at
Strawberry. The band features Glenn "Houston" Pomianek (guitars),
Travis Jones (vocals), Chris Kee (bass, cello, and guitar), Peter
Tucker (drums), and Henry Salvia (keyboards, accordian)
Opening will be Plow, traditional and new original string band music
features David Bandrowski (banjo, vocals), Doug Walker (upright bass),
Joe Pomianek (guitar, mandolin, vocals) and yours truly on mandolin
and vocals.
“These guys sounded great playing live on my radio show from the first
note to the last. A very original and entertaining band!”
- Wayne Rice, host of KSON FM's Bluegrass Special for 32 years

New Record: After 7 months of recording live in David Lewis' barn in
Julian, CA, the new Plow record is off to get mastered by Bill Wolf
(Tony Rice). Featuring a collaboration with Calvin Broadus, this is
by far Plow's strongest recorded effort yet and illustrates the mutual
foundation that exists between old time string band music and hardcore
gangsta music. Fo' shizzle.
