Old Time Music tonight!

Howdy folks,
I know there is a lot going on today in San Diego, but want to pass
along a note from Phil Boroff about some wonderful workshops and a
concert tonight at Old Time Music with Dan Levenson.

Straight from the horses mouth --

Dear Friends,

I am writing to let you know about another very special
event about to happen here at Old Time Music. Allow me to introduce
Old Timey Fiddle and Banjo master Dan Levenson for those of you who
may not know him. Dan is a native of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania who
currently lives in Galia County in the Appalachia region of Southern
Ohio. Dan is a truly wonderful Fiddle and Banjo player. He will appear
here in concert on Saturday night at 7:00 P.M. admission is $20.00
dollars. It would be too bad for anyone interested in Old Time Music
to miss a quality concert like this.
Any players of this wonderful music might well also want
to avail themselves of one of the three Workshops that Dan will offer
this weekend. The first Workshop will take place Saturday morning at
9:00 A.M. to 11:00 A.M. The Workshop will be called "Fiddle from
Scratch", pun intended. It will be a fun and painless introduction to
Traditional Fiddle Playing that Dan plays so beautifully.
The second Workshop that will be offered starts at 1:00
P.M. to 3:00 P.M. also on Saturday. The second Workshop will be called
Clawhammer from scratch. If there's a pun here I didn't get it. This
Workshop is the perfect opportunity to get started playing Clawhammer
also known as Frailing or Drop Thumb style Banjo. This is the earliest
style of Banjo and for many, this style of "brushing" out the melody
is the most beautiful of all the music made on a Banjo.
The third Workshop will take place on Sunday at OTM from
12 noon to 3:00 P.M. This Workshop will be an Intermediate to
Advanced Workshop on the Clawhammer Banjo. It will feature more
advanced techniques like the much feared drop-thumb move and insights
into the nature of Old Time Music.
Admission to the Saturday Workshops is $40.00 for each
workshop. Admission to the more advanced Sunday Workshop is $50.00.
Just reading through any of Dan's many fine instructional books
reveals that he cares as much about the learning process of the
student as he does about the music. Even on the written page he
reveals himself as an insightful and gentle instructor. This concert
and workshops are just the kind of activity that OTM is so proud to
