Hey Boodah, just was in Paul & Sandy's grabbing some take-out and I
saw a very tempting jar of cookies on the shelf. (From Such A Treat
cookies)

The fellow who sold me them (Not Paul or Sandy, but another nice guy)
wasn't actually 100% sure of what varities were in the jar, so I just
went for 2 of the chocolate chip cookies (or is this the belgian
chocolate? I'm not sure)

They look good! And only a buck each, not too far fetched

I'm just sitting down to eat my lunch now, but I've got a few cookies
for dessert. Will report back :)

PS: I like the idea of the frozen dough for take-home preperation.
Sounds nice and convenient..

Hey ducky,
If it was the white haired guy with glasses, that's Nick. The
varieties in the jar as of today are Oatmeal Raisin, Chocolate Chip
and Dark Chocolate with Milk and White Chips. A fresh batch is going
over there tomorrow (she doesn't let them stay in the jar for more
than 4-5 days, they're still fresh but start to get just a tad more
dry than she'd like at that point so she pitches them and replaces
them with fresh ones). She's experimenting at this point so the
flavors are going to rotate around a bit until we figure out what
people like. If you have any suggestions from the flavors listed on
her site let me know. For every cookie she makes, if they contain
chocolate, it is always Callebaut belgian chocolate. For every cookie
she makes that contains cocoa (so far just the darker chocolate ones
you may have seen in the jar) it is always Valrhona french cocoa.
Considering that, we agree with you on the price. It's basically the
same as what Tim Hortons charges for a cookie but using far superior
ingredients and no crap like shortening or preservatives. We did a
weight comparison once and the Such A Treat cookies actually weigh
just a tad less than the ones from Tim Hortons so it really comes down
to ingredients and I think she's got them beat hands-down. And yeah,
the frozen dough has been a real hit with the people who've bought it
so far. Thanks for the feedback, I'll pass it along.

What I meant to say was "Such A Treat cookies actually ONLY weigh

just a tad less than the ones from Tim Hortons"

She pitches them?   I hate to see good food go to waste.   Why not sell them off at 1/2 price?

There's several reasons: The first is she'll end up competing with
herself if she sells the "day olds" at the same location she's selling
the fresh ones (especially if people taste them side by side and
realize the 1/2 price ones are basically as good as the other ones).
There's also a plan afoot for when the weather gets nicer, we've
discovered the ones that have dried out a bit make EXCELLENT ice cream
sandwiches :)

I'd buy the 1/2 off ones!

I can't remember if he had glasses, or he might have taken them off..
he did say that they were being sold by a friend of the restaurant,
and i made a quick comment that I had read about them on the net...

the quality of the ingredients definitely sound top notch, and
definitely leaps better than whatever mass produced "solution" Tim
Horton's is using..

the only real obstacle i see is that $25 dollars is alot to spend on
just cookies at one time, making the frozen variety probably more
tempting than the baked kind (because the only way to get them is via
delivery, right, at $25 minimum?)

Like you'd have to have a pretty big family to eat 25 bucks worth of
baked cookies before they get a bit stale.. just a thought of course,
maybe i'm wrong

gonna try it out shortly, looking forward to it. The Ice Cream
sandwich already came to mind for me, believe it or not hehe..
becuase my brother always comes home and puts the Quizno's cookies
(yuck) in the toaster oven for a minute and puts ice cream on top..

cheers!

The minimum order for delivery is $24. We had to set a delivery
minimum since it's really not worth the time/effort/expense to deliver
a single box of frozen dough that costs $12 half-way across the city.
We've thought a lot about the point you make and here's what we came
up with: If you're buying baked cookies, it's likely that they
probably are being eaten in a realtively short timeframe (for example,
an office is having a employee meeting and orders 2 dozen baked
cookies to serve as a snack, you're throwing a party and a bunch of
people are coming over, etc...). The dough can last a LONG time in the
freezer [a friend of mine baked some after 3 months, said they were
perfect]. So at the present time, although $24 may sound like a
sizable cash outlay, that's 4 dozen frozen cookie balls. Even if
you're eating 1-2 per day baking them off after dinner that's a pretty
big supply (customers have told us 4 dozen dough balls are lasting
them anywhere between 3 weeks to 2 months depend on gluttony and
number of kids in the household). $24 is likely what would be
considered a risky investment if you've never tasted the cookies
before, too, which is why we're trying to get the word out about them
and get them into the hands of people so they recognize the quality of
them (hence the agreement we have to sell singles at Paul and
Sandy's). As soon as the business is stabilized having a storefront
becomes far more viable and then you can choose to just buy as much as
you want. And by the way, the guys at my old office do, in fact, use a
toaster oven to bake them so that's viable (the baking time just
becomes a bit more experimental depending on your toaster oven).

Just tried them, they sure are good! I had the chocolate chunk
cookies , nice pieces of delicious milk chocolate in every bite. You
can tell its the good chocolate too, really smooth... they're crispy
and not the soggy undercooked kind that try to mimic soft oven fresh
cookies... these are crispy and just a bit of chew in the middle..
these ones almost seemed to have a bit of a salty-sweet thing going
on, which i love.. might have just been my tastebuds, but definitely
a winner for me

I'll give the frozen ones a go, I shot ya an e-mail! these are going
to be dangerous just sitting in the freezer... too tempting haha.. I
like the idea you said about being able just to bake off 1 or 2 at a
time -- that is perfect

talk to ya soon, you can tell your girlfriend the cookies get my thumbs up! :)

cheers

You're just like me, I hate those fake "oven fresh" chewy ones. I want
a bit of a crispy edge, a pliable middle with a bit of an al dente
bite to them. And yeah, that sweet/salty thing is really a hit with
everyone, the tiny bit of saltiness enhances the chocolate.

If you sent an email about an order I didn't get it, try sending it to
rac...@suchatreat.com. Also, you can pass along the thumbs-up
yourself, she just joined this group as Rachael.

Cheers back at you.

yeah those fake chewy ones are the worst, i'm with you on that 100%..
and yeah the sweet-salty thing I've always been a fan of, so that
totally works

can't wait to try them right out of the oven!

i did send an e-mail, before i wrote anything here even. I sent it to
relche***@gmail.com , I will forward it to the address you just posted
now

I'm off to the pub, but I'll check the response when I get home

cheers!
