Hi Everyone,
I'm not sure to what degree this group still has accurate emails associated, but I felt it important to pass on the email below.
David
SENT ON BEHALF OF LISA ZOUTIS, MD
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
I’m writing to tell you that my health has taken an unexpected turn. I have been diagnosed with Mild Cognitive Impairment, which, in my case, seems to be a progressive process on the path to Early-Onset Dementia.
Recently, I have been increasingly concerned about my level of function, so this diagnosis is a very believable explanation for why I’ve been struggling to keep up in my roles as physician and Residency Program Director. These are beloved roles for me that I have enjoyed immensely, but now find overwhelming and unsustainable.
I will be stepping down from clinical duties and from the Program Director role. Joe St. Geme and I have been in discussion and he is poised to expeditiously complete an internal search for a successor for the PD role. He will be sending out an email shortly to explain the process more thoroughly.
Everyone has been amazingly (but not surprisingly) supportive as I navigate this next phase of my career and life. I’m looking forward to that chapter after I support the transition to a new PD.
Words cannot describe what a privilege it has been to work with you as clinicians and colleagues dedicated to training the next generation of pediatricians. I am grateful for my 18 years at CHOP, which has been unquestionably the most inspiring and rewarding years of my professional life.
With tremendous respect and gratitude,
Lisa
PS thinking of and missing you all!

Agreed,
By the way, Dena had the great idea of our class doing some sort of tribute to her.
I've emailed to ask about a brick or something else we could purchase in her name.
I'll be in touch,
David
Hi All,
Info below for a paver at Burger. I think it might be possible to do this as a class in Dr. Z's honor depending on number of people interested.
Anyone who is interested, please drop me an email so I can get a sense of numbers (not a commitment at this stage, just to get a sense of numbers).
Please also forward to anyone who may not be on the intern dlist any longer!
David
Thank you for your interest in purchasing a paver in honor of a physician mentor. We still have many pavers available at our Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care. Following
is information regarding the location, inscription information, and price points of available pavers:
Arcade Plaza Paving Stone ($2,500)
Arcade Plaza Paving Stones are located along the street-side perimeter of the Buerger Center. CHOP will select the specific locations of pavers.
· Pavers are 2’ x 4”
· Engraved lettering will be approximately 1” high
Donor Listing Specifications:
· There are no restrictions on inscription content but all content is subject to approval by CHOP.
· Engraving is restricted to two lines of text, containing up to 40 total characters per line.
· Characters include letters, spaces, and punctuation (i.e. periods after middle initials).
Thanks Melissa,
It was actually Dena's idea (I can't take credit), but I'm happy to help implement!
We are up to 18 people or $139/each. Which is great! I'll wait a few more days for the post-holiday crowd to get back to me and I'll send out another update.
David
PS, if anyone has any thoughts on inscription, I would welcome them! D
Hi Evan,
Details are below.

Hi Everyone,
I thought "giving Tueday" would be an appropriate time to move this forward. As you all have seen, this D list is very much alive with a wonderful and caring group of friends. We had a whopping 39 people respond, which is basically the whole class and probably represents everyone on this list. Amazing.
I think the $2500 stone is very obtainable. With 39 people the individual cost is $64 each.
I'm going to contact the donation office to see if it is possible for everyone to make individual donations, or if everyone needs to go through me. We also need to decide on an inscription.
The limitations are:
· Engraving is restricted to two lines of text, containing up to 40 total characters per line.
· Characters include letters, spaces, and punctuation (i.e. periods after middle initials).
And... I miss-spelled Lisa. We should probably fix that.

Hello Everyone,
I'm very happy to report that we are over the $2,500 goal, total donation was $2,642! Well done!
We have also decided on an inscription which will read as follows:
Lisa
Z, MD – Mentor, friend, inspiration
Thank you! - Intern Class of 2013
The next round of paving stone inscriptions will take
place in the spring. Paver installation depends on appropriate weather conditions and is subject to change. They don’t have an exact date set, but they anticipate sometime between April and May.
Also, I'm happy to report that Meredith, Evan, and I are brainstorming a fun way to "give" Dr. Z the gift. We are actually thinking it would be fun to do a little video - perhaps everyone preparing a *very short* iPhone video saying "hello" and "thank you", that we will edit together. We have lots of time, as I think it makes sense to wait until near the installation date... so say tuned for more details!
Happy holidays to everyone!
David

Thanks, Meredith! This is awesome! Thanks for all the last minute changes too. So happy to be apart of this great class gift. (Luca got an extra treat tonight for his cameo and hard work fetching.)

Dear, Sweet Intern Class of 2013,
I received your email and... well... it blew me away.
The video, the paving stone, the warmth, the humor, the love are such an extension of the wonderful people that you are. With tears and smiles I have watched and rewatched the video TNTC times, and each time it touches me down to my toes, warms my heart, and makes me smile.
Thank you seems inadequate, but it is heartfelt. You honor me with your kindness and rekindle a connection to each of you that is real and precious.
Please know that I am doing well. I'm finding ways of working with the parts of my brain that still function quite nicely, and laughing at my inevitable foibles as I navigate life. In some ways it's not that different from anyone else. Maybe I'm just more appreciative 😉
With so much love and gratitude,
Dr. Z
